Buxh moves even closer to a dictatorship
In a blatant effort to remove power from a democratic Congress Buxh signed an order to appoint his own gatekeeper at the head of each and every government agency.
This overseer will have the ability, as I understand it, to restrict health and safety regulations handed up by Democrats in the legislative branch and by impartial administration employees as well.

In other words, if anyone in government wants to legislate anything from mine safety to coal burning pollution, they have to be approved through Buxh's hand picked appointee.

Sounds like Gonzalas is pitching in to make the 110th "the do even less" Congress.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 — President Bush has signed a directive that gives the White House much greater control over the rules and policy statements that the government develops to protect public health, safety, the environment, civil rights and privacy.

In an executive order published last week in the Federal Register, Mr. Bush said that each agency must have a regulatory policy office run by a political appointee, to supervise the development of rules and documents providing guidance to regulated industries. The White House will thus have a gatekeeper in each agency to analyze the costs and the benefits of new rules and to make sure the agencies carry out the president’s priorities.

This strengthens the hand of the White House in shaping rules that have, in the past, often been generated by civil servants and scientific experts. It suggests that the administration still has ways to exert its power after the takeover of Congress by the Democrats.

The White House said the executive order was not meant to rein in any one agency. But business executives and consumer advocates said the administration was particularly concerned about rules and guidance issued by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

2. Nope, he's got that covered too..
This new precedent setting directive will apply across the board.

HELLO CONGRESS... Create a Constitutional Crisis to STOP the madness before he writes a directive telling you to stay home, unless you are a Republican!

3. If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.
Nowadays it would probably be, if wishes were cars, beggars would drive.

Impeachment without conviction does nothing. Clinton was impeached, but not convicted. If there is impeachment, or even time enough for impeachment, it is going to be a one shot deal. There had better be a good chance of conviction then because there is no chance now. Conviction in the Senate would require the votes of probably more than 17 Republican Senators, the same people who are routinely run down as being no better than garbage here. But by all means, impeach if it makes you feel better because that is as far as it would go now.

5. Check and see if Lenin did this also.
I am sure that this was part of the Central party's rules along with a party person in the service groups and Bush has been putting his right wing religious people into the service for years. Two guys in the WH that are really sure they are right about every thing and believe me we are going to be ruled by it.

7. Will our Chavez bashers pull their hair out over this?
At least Chavez went to the legislature for new authority. Bush just grants new powers to himself BY DECREE. Too bad we don't have Venezuela's recall election rule.

8. Iow, Bushco pushing further to force a Constitutional Crisis
Here is how it will go - and no longer under the radar:

congress passes a law with specifications of how to be carried out

bush signs law but issues a signing statement signalling what parts he wants to ignore (its just a statement/belief they have claimed - not an actual action against the law passed by congress)

bush political appointee implements law via the signing statement not as written

SOMEONE (tons of orgs now watching - so take your pick - ABA? ACLU? Labor Group?) files a suit which spirals up to the Roberts Court.

Bushco is confident that they will win and forever change the balance of power and essentially "rewrite" the constitution.
