Apartment Owner, Manager charged in fatal Arson

The owner and manager of a Cicero apartment house where seven people were killed in a fire will appear in bond court this morning on murder and arson charges.

Lawrence Myers, the building's owner, instructed Marion Comier, who was also the building's maintenance man, to "take care of that building," Cicero Police Superintendent Lori Lelis said, adding that the owner was having trouble with Internal Revenue Service. She declined to elaborate on Myers' tax problems.

Myers, 60, and Comier, 47, were each charged with seven first-degree murders and aggravated arson in the Feb. 14 blaze, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office.

After this morning's bond hearing at the county courthouse in Maywood, State's Atty. Anita Alvarez is expected to make a statement.
