SIGN THE PETITION -- and PASS IT ON!
http://act.boldprogressives.org/go/443

We're releasing this statement to the media and Congress -- will you help us reach 250,000 signatures on it?

"Americans want a good health care bill with a public option, even if it passes with only Democratic votes. We would rather have a good bill than a bipartisan one."

Poll after poll shows that voters care more about a good health care bill than a bipartisan one.

*********

QUESTION: What would make you more likely to vote for Democrats in the 2010 elections:

If they pass health care reform that includes a public health insurance option but gets zero Republicans votes
OR
if they pass health care reform without a public option but with some Republican votes?

Nevada: 53% public option, 40% bipartisanship
Illinois: 61% public option, 30% bipartisanship
Iowa: 58% public option, 29% bipartisanship
Washington: 61% public option, 25% bipartisanship
Missouri: 49% public option, 36% bipartisanship
Virginia: 55% public option, 33% bipartisanship
*Minnesota: 51% public option, 39% bipartisanship
*Colorado: 46% public option, 43% bipartisanship

1. do you think that Congress or the Pres care? they KNOW that we want universal single payer
they also know that the "Healthcare" industry has paid, continues to pay, and will pay in the future BILLIONS to representatives and campaigns in order to do their bidding (Thanks Citizens United v. FEC).

Congress does not serve us, it serves their corporate masters.

Ok, ok, say we do sign YET ANOTHER DAMNED PETITION, what comes of it?

Did a petition end the war?
impeach bush and dick?

or any of the countless other things they have been floated to do?

Petitions serve two purposes:
Provide political cover for representatives and groups to make it LOOK like they are doing something for THE PEOPLE.
They allow THE PEOPLE (who sign) to FEEL like they did something, without really doing anything. (See also: Slacktivism)

6. IMO: there's still lots of time, for lots of movement, in favor of a public option...
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 04:08 PM by thotzRthingz
Obama essentially set a deadline (4-6 weeks) for the REPUKES to "come over" in favor of REAL HCR ... I seriously doubt that there will be any defections (since the gNOp party) seems hell-bent on its own complete destruction).

Since the HCR SUMMIT, five more Senators have signed-on, asking REID to pass a PUBLIC OPTION via reconciliation. I've heard, time & time again... that there are 51 Senators who would support the public option. So:

1. keep calling and emailing and signing petitions... particularly targeting those Senators who have yet to get onboard (see: <http://whipcongress.com for a list of those NOT yet onboard, and those who've committed to this scenario). [br />
2. DO NOT GIVE UP!
3. My thanks to those who continue the fight, we WILL win this thing yet! :toast:

7. at least we forget... VPOTUS BIDEN is "the decider" on parlamentary matters in the Senate!

Ref: http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2010/03/01/2215134.aspx

01 March 2010
Biden rules

Vice President Joe Biden could play a bigger role when it comes to the health-care process going forward than most people previously understood.

Former Senate parliamentarian of 37 years Robert Dove said on MSNBC's The Daily Rundown that the vice president, who also functions as the president of the Senate, can override the parliamentarian when it comes to what qualifies under reconciliation.

"The parliamentarian only can advise," Dove said. "It is the vice president who rules."

3. K&R. Every little bit helps.
Screw bipartisanshi*. That only works when both sides agree to play.
