Molotov cocktail thrown at Cairo synagogue
CAIRO — An unidentified assailant threw a firebomb at a downtown Cairo synagogue on Sunday, causing no casualties or damage, security officials told AFP.

Police believe the man checked into a small hotel across the street from the century-old Shaar Hashamayim synagogue in a busy Cairo street and threw the makeshift bomb from the fourth floor lobby before fleeing.

But it landed on the pavement opposite the synagogue causing a small fire, a security official said, confirming earlier reports carried by state-run MENA news agency.

"There were no tour groups visiting the synagogue when the incident happened. There were no casualties or damage," another official told MENA.
