Saw an interesting claim here in GD a while back regarding the Iran Hostage Crisis of 79-80...
The claim -- which had a couple accompanying articles -- was that the corporations that got Reagan elected bribed Khomeini's government to stall diplomatic attempts and delay releasing the hostages until after the 1980 election.

Unfortunately, I don't recall what the titles of the articles (if any) were, and I didn't think to bookmark them. You know how it goes -- you think "I'll look at this later" and then never get around to it.

Does anyone have the titles of these articles -- or better still, links to them? Please?

1. I don't know about the corporations, it wouldn't surprise me, but

It's well known that Poppy Bush went to London before the 1980 election and negotiated that the Iranians would not release the hostages before the election so as to avoid an October surprise. Obviously, Poppy Bush was never prosecuted.

4. The hostages were released...
...just after Reagan was sworn in.
And later, Reagan's people were caught dealing arms with Iran. Iran Contra they called it.

12. Soon after the hostages were released two C 130's landed at Tehran airport
That's probably how Iran got all those Stinger missiles.

3. The claim actually comes from the book "Family of Secrets" by Russ Baker.

It is a very interesting read, and it took him (I believe) 10 years to complete.

Edit to say: I should have stated; One place that it has recently been mentioned was in the above book!

9. The October Surprise
...Part of a long line of treason, it was prelude to Iran-Contra. No matter what his apologists -- including a surprising number on DU -- say, Poppy and his cronies are traitors.

Robert Parry chronicled the treason.

It's no theory. It's documented by a former NSA staffer to three presidents and USN Capt. Gary Sick and Reagan White House staffer Barbara Honegger.

13. the USA was defrauded
klol. so much fraud, yet so many reactionary loudmouths protesting the liberal left ruining of the USA, which meanwhile, gets beaten like the family mule every single day, by con men too cowardly to go to war, and too stupid to realize the hypocrisy their pro warpig mentalities exposes. krazeelol
(if anyone thinks 'october surprise' was indicative of the routine fraudulence in news events reportage, lookit the 'Iron Curtain'. Is it only i who find out that it was the ALLIES, and not Stalin's USSR, that FORCED Germany partition after WW2, and thus established the 'Iron Curtain'? Or that the The Marshal Plan, which was used to rejuvenate europe, was ONLY used in west europe, and not in Eastern Europe where the damage is still obvious 60 plus years later?)
krazee, man...krazee
