In a moment of weakness, a few weeks ago when the DCCC called, I told them I'd give them $10 upon further reflection, I realized that was a mistake since the money might go to blue dogs, DLCers, and other corrupt Democrats who block real progressive change and that its better to give to individual candidates.
So the DCCC called today to ask why I hadn't sent in my check.
I told the woman on the phone I was very disappointed that the Democrats put their most corrupt members in charge of health care reform and didn't fight for the public option.
She said, ''Well did you hear about the public option letter?''
I said I'll believe it when I see RESULTS not token efforts. When the rich snap their fingers, the money pours out of the treasury, but we get half-hearted gestures and excuses.
She asked if that meant I wasn't sending the money.
I said I can't trust the party to dole out my money, but if the Democrats didn't make some major changes they risk losing their party not just my lousy ten bucks.
I said I'll be glad to give money when they do what we elected them to do.
I told her to pass the message up the foodchain.
I felt bad for the woman because she said she was a progressive herself but we have to let the party know that insincere gestures, stumblefuckery, and corruption are not going to cut it.
That was before I read the story about Obama's healthcare bill leaving out the public option and in the cadillac tax. I called the White House and said Obama needs to fight for and sign a strong public option and anything less is evidence of profound corruption.
The only measure is RESULTS and they are producing too few, especially given how fast and generous they are with corporate bailouts, defense budgets, wars, and trade deals that gut our manufacturing base.
