How many more days of these BO-RING Olympics?
A whole bunch of sports I could care less about while I wait for the real Olympics in London.

1. IMO, the Winter Olympic sports are much more exciting to watch...
Downhill skiing, bobsled, luge. The Summer Olympics have ribbon twirling... :-(

15. May I add to that snowboard-cross?
That was a new one for me, and I enjoyed watching it a lot.

I already liked figure skating, speed skating, and conventional Alpine ski events, so I was happy to find a new event to be a fan of.

21. I think I saw that. It was pretty cool...
There aren't many Winter Olympic events that I don't enjoy watching. But the Summer events, like the ribbon/hoop twirling and the synchronized swimming, aren't quite the same... :-(

23. That was the one where four people raced down a course on snowboards
and tried to stay upright and not crashing into one another as they flew over bumps and rounded curves.

24. Oh, no! That sounds awesome!
The event that I saw was just one guy trying to stay upright and not crashing as he flew over bumps and rounded curves. I thought that this was pretty exciting! I'll have to see if I can find video of the one you saw and put it on my "must see" list... Thanks! :hi:

3. Not enough days left if you asked me!
I love the winter olympics and the "real" olympics too. OK, curling not so much, but did you catch Shaun White in the men's halfpipe gold medal run? It was fucking fantastic!

6. If I don't visit GD it's like they don't even exist...which is the way I like it...
The only time anyone here even talks about it is today when someone who's from Cooma (just up the road) won a gold medal doing some snowboardy stuff that I've seen kids do much better on skateboards down at the local skatepark...

Olympic Alpine site may be for sale during games

WHISTLER, British Columbia — At the height of its Olympic glory, Whistler — the ski resort hosting glamorous Alpine events at the Winter Games — may be headed for the auction block.

It's owned by a New York hedge fund that is reportedly behind on a $524 million loan payment, the result of flagging resort business and plummeting property values.

Creditors want their money back, and they're playing hardball — calling an auction to put Whistler and other property up for sale Friday, the same day Bode Miller is scheduled to compete for his second Olympic medal in the men's super-G.

The backstory is a parable of our economic times: high-stakes hedge-fund gambles, the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the possible bankruptcy of a company that owns some of North America's most prestigious resorts.

If Whistler does get sold — meaning the slopes, the lifts, the property, all of it — some locals worry about an uncertain future.

9. Well, we should cancel them IMMEDIATELY, if you don't care about them!
Christ, I guess it's too hard to avoid, what with them showing the Olympics on a maximum of three whole channels, and only after 3 p.m. How will you ever survive?

14. There's a good curling thread in the sports forum...
with an explanation.

But basically it's the rocks of the same colour closest to the center of the circle score.

Curling 101

If red is closest, then yellow next closest, red scores 1.
If red is closest, then another red next closest, then yellow closest after that, red scores 2.
If 3 red stones are closer than the closest yellow stone, red scores 3.
etc.

The game is broken down into 10 ends, with each player on each team throwing 2 rocks (4 people / team is 8 rocks / team, 16 rocks total per end)
The team that scored most recently throws first in the next end.

Highest score wins :)

Sid

have been a treat to watch. How can you not enjoy watching Lindsay Vonn Shaun White? They are amazing talents. Even watching the American Curling team choke time and again has been fun.

20. ZERO DAYS for you. But then, I think you knew that already.
Avoid NBC during the Olympic telecasts.

This one was right there on the first shelf I came to in the "Simple Solutions to Simple Problems" locker.
