Because as fun as they are, the games are a corporate boondoggle.
Unless Ohno opens a shop and hires some people, the usual suspects pocket the money and leave the host city in a bunch of debt.

so that's an idea:) Maybe he can team up with Shaun White, sell hair extensions to young wanna be hipsters, hmm.

Right now people are probably feeling inspired to buy sporting equipment and gym passes-then will soon lose the enthusiasm and be selling them on Craigslist.

Personally I was hoping to get more business with more people staying in the area and some trickle down from a general boost in the area, but it seems to be slower for some reason, even with increased advertising. Maybe everyone's glued to their tvs or went up to Bellingham to watch it live (where they get a Canadian channel that carries it live). Still, I'm having a blast watching the Olympics myself, whether or not I personally benefit.

I heard from my mom, who lives near the border, that the border crossing is busier going into the US than into Canada, so maybe there will be a bit of a boost at least for those of us in the vicinity...but other than that.

Maybe more people will move here and to northerly, after all, Vancouver keeps being referred to as one of the most livable cities. So I guess it could go either way-an influx of new residents could bring more job competition, or more jobs depending.

4. One would think its sure helping
NBC executives fill their pockets. Republicans would call that the "trickle down" method.

10. Anything that lifts the spirits of the American people right now
is certainly a good thing. I am very proud of every medal, and continue to watch my favorite TV every four years. No disparaging comments can lessen the feelings of pride that a tremendous number of Americans are feeling right now. Sorta like what winning the Super Bowl has done for New Orleans and Louisiana.
