Taking a Texas Primary Ever Farther to the Right
Source: NYT

HOUSTON — Some days it is hard to be a neophyte far-right candidate in a governor’s race, even in Texas, where Republicans vying for the party’s nomination try to outdo one another to prove their conservative credentials.

Debra Medina found that out when she appeared on Glenn Beck’s radio show last week and fumbled a question about whether she agreed with conspiracy theorists who think the Bush administration was involved in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard,” she said. “There’s some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there.”

<SNIP>

While she supports some libertarian ideas and has been a longtime supporter of Representative Ron Paul, the Texas libertarian, she hastens to point out that she is not in favor of legalizing drugs. She is also quick to defend her plan to replace property taxes with a sales tax as a practical one, though it requires sales taxes of up to 15 percent.

“I am not a crazy person,” she said. “I know we have to fund government.”

1. Ok here's my question. If that's not crazy..
.. then what is sane?

OK.. anything looks sane next to Perry,
but really... a 15% sales tax?

Sheesh.

2. Oh yeah.
Spread the burden to the poor when they have to pay an extra 15% for a loaf of bread so the guy in the $4 Mil home won't be harassed by higher taxes.

5. Food is not taxable here in Texas
though your point is well taken. Folks who can't afford to owwn real property still have to buy clothes, go to work ... that is, if they have work to go to ...
etc.

3. I get it - people who rent or can't afford to own homes have a lot of money
and can pay sales tax to support the people well off enough to be property owners. Republican logic.

6. Ugh
I am so glad this woman has practically no chance of winning. I'm suprised she didn't suggest a state income tax to replace the property tax.

10. Another tea bagger out to spread their version of insanity.
I see these morons every week. I work right next to the city hall. They appear out of the shadows with their misspelled signs, protesting something that actually works with unfounded bullshit.

These people are the super heroes of stupid, out to rid the world of intelligence.

11. Texas has become, by default, our...
comic relief state.

They keep this stuff up and they'll end up in the 'funny papers.'

13. I live here. LOL I'm amazed as what passes as a governor.
I term the current race for governor, the battle of the brain cells. LOL

both moron KBH and cement head perry survive solely on knowing that the state is red and they can float all sorts of moronic crap and the repukes will believe them.

For a state that requires students to take a class in Texas government, it's a wonder to me how the population is so willfully ignorant of how our state government works.

If they only knew that the position of governor is only slightly above an official ribbon cutter at a walmart opening, they might see cement head perry for what he is; a high functioning moron.

12. Sales tax that high is disastrous
It cuts off consumer buying power and in turn lowers revenue even more.

A year ago Rick Perry’s political future seemed to be in peril. Now he’s looking past the 2010 elections—and all the way to the White House.
Think I’m kidding?
How about a cup of tea?
