Bangkok PostA pork vendor has told police he tossed bags of human excrement and fermented fish into the home of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Feb 1 because he was fed up with police indifference to his complaints.
Wiwit Teosawat, 50, was arrested by Metropolitan Police Division 5 police on Friday at his house in Soi Nawamin 10 in Klong Chan area of Bang Kapi district.
Pol Col Charn Saengsiangfa, deputy commander of the division, said police searched the property and found clothing, a helmet and motorcycle matching those used by the man seen in security camera pictures throwing four bags of human waste and fermented fish into Mr Abhisit's house in Soi Sukhumvit 31.
Pol Col Charn said Mr Wiwit confessed and said he did it because he was dissatisfied with the police who paid no attention to his complaints about people smoking cigarettes near his house. He said the smoke affected his son.
He said the police were indifferent to his complaints, even though he threatened to throw human waste at the prime minister's house.
Mr Wiwit said he was not mentally deranged, as police earlier suggested.
Sources said Mr Wiwit, a Mathayom 3 (Grade 9) graduate of Triam Udon Pattana School, is a pork dealer in Lat Phrao area and his wife works as a nurse at a hospital in Bang Na area. They said he had done a similar thing three times previously, but gave no details.
Pol Col Varavut Taweechaikarn, another deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Division 5, said Mr Wiwit would be charged under Articles 389 and 397 of the Criminal Code with contaminating other people's property and causing shame to other people. If found guilty, he was liable to one month imprisonment and/or a fine of 1,000 baht.
Mr Abhisit, when asked by reporters, said he did not know that the suspected attacker had been arrested
