Both Obama and Harry Reid seem oddly averse to using reconciliation or any other maneuver that would get health care reform through the Senate with a simple majority instead of 60 votes. They seem to be placing a higher value on the self-imposed rules of the country club chamber of Congress than the health, economic well-being, and even lives of the American people.
The one thing you can say for Republicans, when they want something done in Congress, they use every procedural trick available, push the rules to the limit, and even go further if they have to.
I don't want Democrats to break the law.
But I do want them to fight with every tool at their disposal, and not play croquet while the GOP/DLC and their corporate owners are coming at us with chainsaws.
Further, corporate America and their tools do not seem to respond to civility or practice it themselves. If they did, there would have been no Bush administration.
Therefore, if Obama and Harry Reid pushed the rules to the limit and passed legislation that was clearcut enough to be popular (not forcing people to buy over-priced products from private companies), the resulting surge in approval for Obama and the Congress would give them more power and put corporations on the defensive.
So which is more important, playing politely with the corrupt GOP/DLC & Blue Dogs or passing a good bill?
