Tea Party Politicians

by digby

These are the people to whom I'm supposed to show respect:

TANCREDO: And then, something really odd happened, mostly because I think that we do not have a civics literacy test before people can vote in this country. People who could not even spell the word "vote," or say it in English, put a committed socialist idealogue in the White House, name is Barack Hussein Obama.

The thing is, my feelings aren't hurt by this and I don't crave the understanding of someone like Tom Tancredo. But I do think it's irresponsible to ignore it or pretend that it isn't racist and disgusting. And validating the "regular folks" who cheer this garbage by saying that they are "under stress" is infantilizing them. They know very well what they are saying.

This is the ugly side of right wing populism and if anyone thinks they will be appeased or co-opted by economic appeals they are not seeing what really moves them.

2. Tancredo: hypocrite, bigot, hate-filled war monger.
Only an idiot would pay attention to anything he says.

And apparently, he's got an audience of idiots. After all, what would you expect from a group of people who named themselves after an oral sex act?

Lord, save us from the idiots... :eyes:

3. African Americans may have a better sense of "civic literacy" than slimeballs like Tancredo
Not being allowed to vote for 200 years can do that to ya.

4. Right - they're "under stress" but have enough to buy $90 teabagger pendants --
-- pony up the -- what was it -- $500+ to attend the event, and are staying at a mid-posh hotel. One of the first events, as I understand it, was a women-only event held at the hotel's spa.

But these are the folks who are so financially stressed and angry that they can apparently afford to take the day off from work to attend this anti-American, racist thing all day. And yes, it is anti-American.

Remember when you couldn't say boo about Bush because he was a "war preznit"?

Give me a break.

5. Night of the Living Teabaggers.
One thing keeps coming back to me over and over. People are not thinking for themselves. This is the problem. They've been lulled by the narcotic of bad tv. We could have been using the tv for teaching, and truth. But it is now a tool for zombification. People have become lazy and unconscious. And instead of being conscious and making up their own minds, aka THINKING, they just spout what Limbaugh says. Or O'Reilly. Or Beck. I think the truth is far more difficult than lies, because it relies on facts. Lies don't rely on anything, except some carefully crafted demolition expert like Limbaugh or Rove. And that's why we don't see crowds of people spouting Zinn or Chomsky.
