Hannity Claims Bush Never Played Golf During Wartime: He Was ‘Far More In Touch’ Than Obama

Last night on Fox News, Sean Hannity criticized President Obama for inviting famous guest chefs to cook at the White House, claiming the President is “out of touch” with regular Americans. “He’s jetting around to Broadway on vacations on our dime!” Hannity complained. “He is so far out of touch with what is going on,” said former Bush adviser Nicolle Wallace.

Both then reminisced about the days when a president was in office who was “far more in touch” with regular folks: President George W. Bush:

HANNITY: George Bush who you worked for did not play golf while this country was at war. He didn’t want the families of loved ones serving, well, that they may have lost the loved ones seeing him on a golf course.

WALLACE: Yes, I mean…

HANNITY: He seemed to be far more in touch.

Watch it:

But then these scumbags are revising history...boooshie really didn't take power until 9/12/01 and the economic collapse happened the day Obama took the oath. It's all revising history and hoping people are so simple to swallow the meme and bullshit.

At some point he realized that the appearance was bad and stopped. Is Obama going to have to be embarassed as much as Bush before he gets the same message?

It looked bad when Bush did it. And now, it looks bad when Obama does it. If he wants to golf, he should just end the wars.

I don't have a problem with the president doing something to release energy and tension during any time.

It's better than having a wound tight stressed out president with the nuclear codes.

And Bush never got the message. He spent more than a third of his presidency on vacation.

19. What you think is not the issue
The issue is how it looks to other people. You know, voters? Those people whose support we need? Like it or not, they think it looks bad when the president is out golfing while troops are getting shot at. You think they'll suddenly not care just because it's Obama and not Bush?

30. Voters didn't care when Bush did it

He got re-elected, remember?

And Hannity lied, Bush didn't give up golf.

Bush claimed he quit playing golf on Aug. 19, 2003, when U.N. envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello was killed in Iraq. Yet, the AP reported two months later that Bush had spent a “cool, breezy Columbus Day” playing “a round of golf with three long-time buddies.” And during the 2008 presidential campaign, Bush attended a high-dollar golf fundraiser for John McCain to “greet the foursomes.”

34. Bullshit.
I don't know anyone who would object to Bush playing golf if he ever did any WORK in his off time.

His "I won't play golf..." was just a PR stunt to make it look like he was doing something when he was really doing nothing. Seriously, what is the difference between two hours on the golf course and two hours having the secret service chase him around on bicycles?

Bush declaring "I won't play golf..." was camouflage, a smokescreen, to distract people from the fact that "...while (our) troops are getting shot at..." he took TWICE the vacation days of any previous president. But that's OK - at least he didn't play golf.

Once again, you live up to your handle.

45. Apparently people cared
Else why would Moore put it in Fahrenheit 451? And not just in the movie, but the trailer? It looked bad, that's why!

I'm not trying to make an ideological point, here. I'm trying to remind you that however unfair or unjust or whatever, appearances matter. Bush learned this the hard way.

46. No, what Bush took away from it was ONLY appearances matter.
As I said, nobody would have given a crap about his golf if he had actually been doing his job.

To counter the APPEARANCE of not caring, he made an APPEARANCE of caring, while lying and going on with whatever he wanted to do.

In any case, consider the context -

"I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. Now watch this drive." (Swings)

It was NOT that he was playing golf - that's just how Rove had him spin it. It was the confirmation that we had an IDIOT in the White House. And in case you've forgotten, that clip was from before he declared he would not play golf. Rove, seeing him look like the moron he is, wanted to keep such juxtapositions out of the public eye and told him he needed to make the public 'sacrifice' of giving up golf (which he didn't do anyway).

Obama is working something that Bush never did his whole so called presidency was ran by Cheney and others. The problem is that even when Obama tries to take a vacation the media won't leave him alone.

He thinks he is having a private moment and looks up and the damn media is filming his every move. Anytime he goes somewhere to make a speech the media are fighting to cover it and complain if he doesn't invite them. They just can't get enough of him,and then they want to call him a celebrity.

Oh yeah, silly me, only when Democrats are in charge do political opportunists like Hannity (and his ilk) worry about such trivial and, frankly, stupid things. I don't honestly believe that the average voter much cares as long as it seems like the President is doing his job. Didn't the Repubs and the corporate media whores once complain about Obama doing TOO MUCH at one point? Did they howl in outrage when Bush publicly proclaimed that he and Laura were "having the time of their lives" at one point?

According to a CBS News story dated May, 2008 Bush was spending his 879th day of vacation at the ranch.

He broke the previous record, 335 days of vacation during 2 terms held by Ronald Reagun, early in his second term on August 19, 2005.

49. Bush stopped playing golf, but not because of how it looked
Bush had bad knees. He couldn't have played a round of golf. He also gave up running--remember, he was a gym rat and really liked to run. When he stopped golfing and running, he switched to mountain biking, which didn't hurt his knees so bad.

Hannity doesn't seem to realize Obama's guest chefs are going to improve the economy--wouldn't you want to eat at a restaurant where the chef was so good the president wanted to eat his creations?
