I know I'm being picky but...
whenever Chuck Todd says "Alinois" instead of Illinois I want to yell at him. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm not even from Illinois and it bothers me. I wonder how those from Illinois like it.

4. That one's easy
The city folks say MissourEE and the rural folks say MissourAH.

John Ashcroft says MissourAH. So does Kit Bond. :)

7. Ah, so....
And now I am enlightened...

I always wondered why people said it two different ways!

We sort of have the same thing with a few of our cities here in Mass. One in particular is Amherst.

Here we call it "Ammerst" (silent "h")

In other states they have the same city name, and it's pronounced the way it's spelled... "Am-hurst".

Language is so much fun... :7

PS...I've always said Missouri with the "ee" on the end.

13. My dad always said MissourAH.
He was well-educated and lived lots of places, but he grew up in a tiny little town in Southeast Missouri. Can't take the boy out of the country. :)

2. I'm from Illinois
I mind "Alinois" a whole lot less than the rubes who insist on saying "Illinoize."

9. What have you got against
people from New Jersey? ;-) I had never heard Illinoize until I moved to NJ several years ago. I swear they think it's the proper way to pronounce it.

It does drive me nuts along with "Let me Axe you a question" and "all ya all"

5. Barnacle mumbles. Drives me up the wall.
This morning he mumbled something and they all laughed. I rewound twice and turned up the volume. Never did figure out what he said.

6. Do you mean Mike Barnicle?
If so, it's because he's from Worcester. Just about everybody from Worcester eastward says "Obamer".

12. My younger son was in MA for about five years, would come home
to visit and could not believe how he had picked up the MA accent. Pahkin' the cah, etc.

11. Yes, and until very recently she didn't actually own property in CA-8
Her real home is a small winery in Saint Helena.
