Big Story Today: Underwear Bomber Singing Like a Jail Bird. Obama's Non-Torture Policy Vindicated
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 09:21 AM by berni_mccoy
It's all over MSNBC right now. The Bomber has been cooperative and giving up real intel. "Speaking freely" is the term being used.

The MSM is even saying this is Vindication for the Obama Administration's policy on treatment of enemy prisoners.

Even better, they showed Sen. Collins lambasting Obama's policy in a web-address this weekend and then noted that she probably wasn't aware that the bomber had been spilling his guts. It was an awesome clip.

1. OMG, does this mean that 24 is just a TV show and things seen in it should not be used in real life?

2. How many ways are there for the so-called conservatives
to ignore this? Or they will just think they are lying. Maybe claim that it's bad security to announce that he is talking.
The last thing that will happen is any acknowledgment that the policy is vindicated.

3. CNN said he has been talking for weeks-per the Feds- and that we flew his
family here to convince him to talk.

I'm pretty sure his family didn't waterboard him mush, either....

rec.
Suck it, republicans.

4. But watch the right wing nuts will be out in full force saying the reason he is
singing his heart out is because he's afraid of being water boarded so water boarding is working. Remember they are of the twisted thinking mind.

8. but what is he saying?
"some guy told me this was a security exercise"
or
"we have a million African swallows, fully laden with tiny dirty bombs ready to be launched"

who was he working with/for?

will he be used to justify expansion of the war on terror or will he be treated like a criminal?

13. People are not tortured to make them talk. Torture is a means of silencing people.
Bush and Cheney didn't have people tortured to uncover terrorist plots or to bring anyone to justice; they tortured people to cover up their own failures and culpability in terrorist actions.

14. Or to put a "truthy" face on whatever they wanted to assert.
Craig Murray implied as much when I saw him speak about 4 years ago. In short, torture allows you to specify what you want the person being tortured to say. Then you can cite it as a source. Horrifying.

Torture is used to make people talk. But it's not used to make people tell the truth.

18. It destroys the credibility of what the victim says, thus "silencing" them.
Citing these words as a source isn't usually the point of torture. The citation of the source is merely a threat of further torture.

15. His family encouraged him to talk, and if he was not threated he probably
felt more comfortable opening up.
