Massachusetts election, the country has spoken
we have sent a clear message.

Free Headline News – Scott Brown says he is pro-choice and believes the Federal Government should not ban gay marriage. The newly elected Massachusetts Senator told Barbara Walters on “This Week” that he is against partial birth abortions, but believes the abortion decision is best left to the woman and her doctor.

1. The "country" has spoken? "We" sent a message?
Funny, but I didn't have any say whatsoever in that MA election. I dare say most people on this board didn't have a chance to send "a clear message" in it, either. Talk about "hyperbole."

7. Neither.

I am just utterly sick of hearing about how one state's election is somehow a reflection of the entire country, "irony" be damned.

8. I agree. I live in Mass and everyone is using
this election to put their own damn spin on it. It was a 12 million dollar aggressive celebrity driven republican campaign against a moribund 5 million dollar media bashed democratic campaign.

3. as predicted by yours truly,
Scott Brown realized his was in Massachusetts, not Mississippi or Texas, after the election, and immediately started veering left.

4. When ever did MA become the bellweather and barometer for the entire nation?
Had Coakley won would that have indicated the entire nation's approval of Obama's and the Democrat's policies?

Somehow I don't think so. This whole setup was fixed and the door would only swing one way (not that Brown won or Coakley lost, but how the Republicans claimed to interpret the election results).

13. I think we gamble and tell the Republicans that we will go with
polls in MA (or even census their voters - it's a small state) and go with their opinion. So, Brown got 52% of the vote against a mediocre candidate - Kerry and Kennedy got 66%+ in their last races.

6. Brown

fed into the anti-incumbent sentiment running wild in the nation. Republicans that believe his win is a ringing endorsement of their party are in for a surprise.

Folks are tired of politicians who seem to be promoting the interests of the most wealthy minority over the needs and good of the rest of some 90% of the nation.

You want to win or stay in office? Push for real financial sector reform. Start with championing the return of something like the Glass-Steagall act.

I'd link you to the information which supports my case, but you seem to be an intelligent individual fully capable of finding the information to support my opinion.

12. Can we get it in writing from the Republicans that we will follow public opinion in MA?
I realize that this is not Democratic, but as the Republicans see it that way, why not. The residents of that commonwealth may have given Brown 52% of the vote, but in the last two Senate elections they gave Kennedy two thirds or more of the vote.
