information. It was wonderful! Everyone should review this and listen to the administration whores making the case (esp.Bush, Rice, Cheney, & Powell) and then ask yourself if we can afford to allow this administration's WH occupants not to be impeached. When you watch...pay attention to the dates of the propaganda messages....it was well planned and devious. Seemed to me as if the entire month of September of 2002 was a giant effort to push the war. They accomplished this widespread misinformation campaign in just a few months....remember Bush has 20 months left in office!and now he's really pissed so who really knows what he's capable of.

edit: thanks for posting :applause:

They didn't even know who Bill Moyers is. They bought into the war hook, line, and sinker. It will be interesting to hear their thoughts on this show (granted if they watch it).

Editorial: Moyers to the rescue

An editorial
April 25, 2007

Bill Moyers is not the first American to ask with regard to media coverage of the run-up to the invasion of Iraq: "How did the mainstream press get it so wrong?"

The man who has been a White House press secretary, newspaper publisher, author and television news program host is not alone in wondering: How did the evidence disputing Bush administration claims and intimations regarding the existence of weapons of mass destruction and the link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11 continue to go largely unreported?

But Moyers has done something that most Americans have not had the time, the resources or the contacts to do, and that is answer the fundamental questions about the failure of print, broadcast and cable news outlets to cut through the spin and give the American people the truth about the Bush administration's unwarranted rush to war.

"What the conservative media did was easy to fathom; they had been cheerleaders for the White House from the beginning and were simply continuing to rally the public behind the president -- no questions asked," explains Moyers. "How mainstream journalists suspended skepticism and scrutiny remains an issue of significance that the media have not satisfactorily explored. How the administration marketed the war to the American people has been well covered, but critical questions remain: How and why did the press buy it, and what does it say about the role of journalists in helping the public sort out fact from propaganda?"

These are the premises and purposes of a remarkable new documentary, "Buying the War," which explores the role of the press in the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The 90-minute program, which airs at 8 p.m. tonight on PBS is the special premiere of the new weekly series, "Bill Moyers Journal."

20. Thanks for posting this.
I just sent him this note:

We can't thank you enough for your work exposing the lies and manipulation in the run up to the war with Iraq. Not all Americans bought into this deadly scam with it's wall-to-wall propaganda, but we were screamed down by family & coworkers who did. It's a relief to have a few American journalists still doing what we've always depended on them to do - ask tough questions and present the truth.

Thank you Mr. Moyers.

He lives 100 miles from me, but we get the same PBS station, and it was on last night here. He wants to see it, but doesn't watch PBS alot. I'll call him next time it airs. He's almost 81 and he is thoroughly enjoying watching the Bush* Admin being dragged onto the hotseat.

14. I watched. This is a very important documentation for the history books.
Two things I wish he had not gone soft on:

  1. When discussing the neocons and PNAC and their long standing desire for war in Iraq and the greater Middle East he did not mention the PNAC "Pearl Harbor" statement.

  2. When mentioning the loss of life he did not reference the Lancelet study or their estimates

21. Because the United States is no longer a nation of laws or justice.
At least, not for the rich or politically connected. For the rest of us low-life's, the Patriot Act has made the laws harsher, and far more enforceable and punishable. Just ask the "privatized prisons" how much they like those longer jail terms for pot smokers. It's just more free labor for the prison system.

17. Absolutely....this should be mandatory viewing for ALL AMERICANS!!!
Very sobering....if anything, Americans would be ashamed to see how they got cheered into a war by a lazy and cowering media.

Americans got conned and they allowed themselves to be....

18. This is what I just sent out on my union BBS:
BUYING THE WAR

(Bill Moyers Journal)

Four years ago on May 1, President Bush landed on the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln wearing a flight suit and delivered a speech in front of a giant "Mission Accomplished" banner. He was hailed by media stars as a "breathtaking" example of presidential leadership in toppling Saddam Hussein. Despite profound questions over the failure to locate weapons of mass destruction and the increasing violence in Baghdad, many in the press confirmed the White House's claim that the war was won. MSNBC's Chris Matthews declared, "We're all neo-cons now;" NPR's Bob Edwards said, "The war in Iraq is essentially over;" and Fortune magazine's Jeff Birnbaum said, "It is amazing how thorough the victory in Iraq really was in the broadest context."

On Wednesday, April 25 at 9 p.m. on PBS, a new PBS series BILL MOYERS JOURNAL premieres at a special time with "Buying the War," a 90-minute documentary that explores the role of the press in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq. Two days later on April 27, BILL MOYERS JOURNAL airs in its regular timeslot on Fridays at 9 p.m. with interviews and news analysis on a wide range of subjects, including politics, arts and culture, the media, the economy, and issues facing democracy. "Buying the War" includes interviews with Dan Rather, formerly of CBS; Tim Russert of MEET THE PRESS; Bob Simon of 60 MINUTES; Walter Isaacson, former president of CNN; and John Walcott, Jonathan Landay and Warren Strobel of Knight Ridder newspapers, which was acquired by The McClatchy Company in 2006.

and I'm am just shocked at what this administration has done to this country...all in the name to take over a country and steal their oil. They lied...and this program clearly shows that they lied...

They dressed it up, made it look pretty, marketed it, and sold it to the people...it's a shame what they have done...
