Iraq Vet has Jarring Realization: Democratic Victory in 2008 will not lead to IRAQ troop withdrawal
Why?

Vietnam was much worse than Iraq thus far: 58,000 soldiers dead, countless wounded. With a little over 3,300 killed in Iraq, America has a propensity to tolerate much great casualties.

Iraq has oil - the lifeblood of America. Vietnam didn't have oil and see how long we remained there.

Vietnam raged under both a democratic and republican president.

Bush, Inc. has successfully linked Al Qaida to Iraq. What politician will opt to flee from Al Qaida? Assuming Al Qaida is in Iraq, how can democrats make an argument for leaving Iraq, while arguing for going after bin Laden in Afghanistan?

The only thing that will bring this war to an end is reinstating the DRAFT.

:hi:

I agree that the Draft would surely bring a quick end to the war...

But I believe the Democratic Congress members and Senate members truely want to end this war.

The Oil ties are predominantly Republican with * (President) and Cheney....Democratic folks aren't allowed in their club....

14. You know, bro, I squirm a bit when folks wash over the Special Hell that each war is ...
Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 08:56 PM by TahitiNut
... and squirm a bit more when folks call the occupation of Iraq a "war." I see Iraq as a 6-week 'war' followed by a four year (and counting) military occupation - an occupation where the vast majority of the people are hostile to the foreign occupiers. Military combat comes in many 'flavors' - all hellish. They're all 'Special' flavors ... with their own individual nightmares. And worse.

People 'at home' had to die before we got out of Viet Nam. I wonder how many people 'at home' are willing to die before we get out of Iraq.

4. First, welcome to DU
:hi:

Second, the bills haven't come due on Iraq yet; everything is still on the credit card (read deficit).

Third, we're counting dead but not wounded. The wounded are a hell of a lot more expensive than the dead. I don't think we've woken up to that realization yet.

When that bill comes due, there will be howling the likes of which has not been heard in a long time.

5. I'm not sure America as a whole will get this message in near future.? Many of us are much to
willing to focus on the likes of Imus. And will most Americans link poor economic conditions with the Iraq war? I'm not convinced.

7. It will if Dennis Kucinich is elected. It will if Bill Richardson
is elected. A few others as well (that is if congress goes along).

9. The war will end when enough bodies come home and the average citizen has to pay for it.
When enough of "we the people" acknowledge that the war is lost and demand that it end. The politicians don't lead they follow.

Same as Vietnam.

11. The US Corp Media has failed once again.
The majority of Dems do not call for all US Troops to be pulled out of Iraq. The Bill outlines that a undetermined number will stay indefinetly to train Iraqi Troops, to defend the Green Zone and the 14 US Bases and to fight al Q and the Sunni and Shi'ite Insurgency. The US will have at least 40K Troops and a large number of Mercs in Iraq well beyond '09. I have posted this quite a few times and it seems that it has been ignored. Oh, well. I will copy this now so I won't have type it out again for a few dozen times.

12. Al-Qaeda in Iraq lives in the Green Zone
Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 08:49 PM by NNN0LHI
Their leaders name is Chalabi. Chalabi is on the US payroll. When USA in Iraq leaves Iraq, Chalabi and Al-Qaeda in Iraq will leave too.

Here is a photo of Chalabi. He is the fellow sitting behind Pickles to the left at the SOTUA:

13. I disagree...
With the Vietnam ..there was a time when we actually had the war all but won..We had key targets in our sites and if Nixon would have had the balls to bomb them then the North Vietnamese would have been more than willing to negotiate. We would have had a more peaceful withdrawal and thousands of American lives would have been saved.
In many ways Nixon used the Vietnam war as a political pawn and of course we all know how it ended.
Americans(except for brain washed freepers) will never be convinced that there is a link between Al Qaida but the corporate media will continue to try and convince us otherwise.
If the U S would have continued our efforts in Afghanistan and efforts to track down bin laden than few Americans would disagreed but Iraq is all about oil and oil profits and we have lost over 3300 lives so this President could repay those corporations that gave millions to his campaign and repay those whose big bucks helped fund the biggest election fraud scam in our history.
So when you say that Democrats wont end this war, well I disagree, but if they dont we will have a third party that will because the voters are demanding an end to this 'war for oil".At this point in time I would say the democrats are making all the right moves. If and when the president vetos the Iraq funding bill it is the next move by the Democrats that will prove to the voters that they are deserving to serve as the legislative majority and I think they will indeed prove that to us.
