I just met a Kurd from Iran.
We were at a seminar. Over coffee he told his story. He is 7th of ten children. Very poor, but his dad new how to read. He taught them all to read.
"Have you read Uncle Tom's Cabin?" he asked? Nope.
"You should it is about a slave that escaped to Canada to be free. I watched jets fly over my village and I knew someday I would be on one of them and fly to Canada. And here I am. And I am free."

4. Fantastic book. I read it in 7th grade, and so began a lifelong
love of history. Just became a history teacher at age 54.

10. From a future history professor...
you're going to influence a lot of kiddos...my HS history teachers (2 in particular) are the reason I am where I am right now-1 year shy of finishing my PhD at 32. I am so freakin' excited.
Congratulations!

6. if you get a chance tell him that I was shocked and tormented when Bush
galled them to rise up and then abandoned them in the first Iraq war. Seeing them toting their old parents over the muddy mountains fleeing their homeland because of it haunts me to this day. Please give my apologies.
