Millimeter Radio-wave scanners are likely TOO SLOW to scan all passengers so it looks as
though "profiling" will, officially, be making a comeback.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jan/01/racial-religious-groups-airport-checks

...industry chiefs warned it would be impossible to screen all travellers with a new generation of body scanners the government now wants introduced at airports.

Airport industry executives warn the scanners are currently too big, slow and expensive to make their widespread installation viable. Costing around £100,000 each, they take up much more space than the arch metal detectors currently in use and require longer to check every passenger.

Many in the industry have long called for the profiling of passengers to detect potential terrorists. But while it is claimed spotters would primarily be watching for suspicious behaviour, there are fears travellers will be selected for enhanced checks based on race, religion and ethnicity...

..."Certainly some people will be aggrieved but the fact is that the majority of people who carry out these terror attacks do happen to be Muslims."...

I do have to say that this makes a certain amount of sense, after all, the majority (?All) of airline terror attackers have been:
a) Elderly, female, Asian Buddhists?
b) Young, blond, female Atheists?
c) Middle aged, male, red-headed Christians?
d) Other?

1. And how exactly would we identify Muslims? Crescent armbands? Tattoo? Giant red "I" on their shirts?

2. the question I keep asking about profiling
is, what will be the procedure to determine someone's religion?

I can't decide if this is a joke (or at least, an
attempted joke) or not.

I used to be pretty laissez-faire about religion,
but I'm just about at the end of my tolerance of *ANY*
religious fundamentalist, whether they're Muslims,
Jews, Christians, or Hindus.* If you want to worship
some fairy tale in a non-violent way that doesn't
harm society, I'm, all for your right to do that.
After all, how many radical UUs have folks run into?
But if you want to rule the world in the name of your
god and you're pretty-much willing to destroy the world
to achieve your goal, you're going to find I ran out
of any tolerance for you about a decade ago.

Tesha

* Did I miss any major religions that have fundy
nutcase wings? And no, I don't count war-hating,
self-immolating Buddhists as nutcases; they're
trying to help society and not harming anyone
but themselves in the process.

4. I think the best clues would come
from passports. If a person's passport originates in certain countries, or if that person's passport has been stamped in certain countries there should be enhanced screening.
