China shopping centre builds 'car park for women'
A shopping centre in China's Hebei province has built a car park with wider spaces that it says is designed especially to suit women drivers.

The women-only car park in Shijiazhuang city is also painted in pink and light purple to appeal to female tastes.

Official Wang Zheng told AFP news agency the car park was meant to cater to women's "strong sense of colour and different sense of distance".

The parking bays are one metre (3ft) wider than normal spaces, he said.

The Wanxiang-Tiancheng shopping centre had also "installed signs and security monitoring equipment that corresponded more to women's needs", he said.

The Global Times website says female parking attendants have been trained to help guide women drivers into their parking spaces. The bays also have extra lighting.

2. I thought maybe it was for safety reasons
which would make sense, but wider spots? What kind of female drivers do they have over there?

Don't blame me, blame science.

6. If that's true, does it have to do with the cars themselves?
I would wager that most cars are designed for male drivers, who are generally taller than female drivers. I had a car where the headrests were a bit too high, I just added a seat cushion and everything was fine.

I drove a friend's Ford Probe back in the 90's on a trip. It was supposedly designed more for a woman driver and that seemed to be true. The visibility at the points was far better.

Some of the current new models have bad rear visibility. I know a friend has a fairly new Matrix, and the sits in that can actually be raised, which would help a lot.

7. Truthfully, women are not as good at spatial relationships,
UNLESS they have been involved in athletic activities, and that includes gymnastics, dance, or skating, along with the standard games-based stuff.

*shrug* It just is.

9. And since Title IX, a lot more of them have been.
I still think it's the cars - they are designed for men to drive.

10. I'll agree with that, too.........
it's also a general difference in aggressiveness, although that's not a given.
