Poor Brian Williams
wringing his hands and saying: We didn't want to air it but what could we do?

2. They shouldn't apologize for showing news
They should apologize for treating American Idol, the father of Anna Nicole's baby, and Britney Spears' haircut as news.

But showing material that allows us to deconstruct the mind and mental problems of a killer qualifies as news, imo.

Now when are they going to start showing us flag-draped coffins coming back from Iraq?

5. Nicely said. ---also, mental illness is being sunk as a result---not that the
media would do anything constructive about that health problem.

What i see now is focus on the grieving families/friends.

4. he's getting blasted in the comments section
This one is my favorite:

it's usually easier to get forgiveness than permission, but in this case you gave yourselves permission. i doubt you're going to receive forgiveness any time soon.

you went for the ratings. you gave the madman exactly what he wanted. you felt it was worth the pain you'd cause, the risk of inspiring copycat killers.

suck it up and swallow it. maybe the next mass killer will start in your studio, and you'll have the best footage available.

and you'll show it, too. whore.

8. Those comments are ridiculous
I think that we, the public, deserve to be able to see those tapes. IT'S NEWS. This is what a killer looks like. This is how he acts. No one is glorifying him.

7. Fucking NBC--they sure were on a moral high horse when they turned the suspension of Imus into a
firing.

Now, they're hand wringing about needing to get some of that market share back? Cry me a fucking river.

10. No being the exec. VP of exec. VPs at NBC here is all I have to offer
You could have

1. Given it to the FBI and said "It is the FBI's for research (etc) they can do with it as they wish"

OR 2. Warn people that it could be hard for many to watch tell them where to find it on your website and announce (but don't promote) when you will air it ONE TIME and where (MSNBC)

But then I am not some expert on the TV business I have just been watching it my whole life.

12. IT made sense to air it on Nightly news so it would reach the most people
MSNBC doesnt reach nearly the amount of people that CNN and Faux do. In order for news to make an impact, releasing it on Nightly news was the right move.
