If a Gallup poll said 56% of people polled supported a war with Tonga
would we invade?

Why on earth does a poll have to be done and ballyhooed...about EVERY freaking thing?

or if it's done, why on earth do we have to hear about it every half hour? and how it's 1 point higher than last week?

It's always struck me as odd too that before we attacked Iraq, polls said we shouldn't, but we did anyway?

FDR was so lucky there was no internet or cable news hawking hourly polls..

I guess pollsters are pushing for full-employment like everyone elase :(

1. Operation Tongan Freedom!
This is the end for that evil Mr. Sevele.

Unfortunately, that would probably the word on the street coming out of the mouths of everyone who also said that anyone opposed to Operation Tongan Freedom was a traitor to America.

2. Exactly - "I guess pollsters are pushing for full-employment like everyone else."

I certainly don't want to sound like Bush, but I find most polls ridiculous for the most part... The sampling distribution is often skewed, biased and the numbers are too low. Additionally, you can get any result you want from a poll by the design of the questions.

Yes, I've often thought the same, "FDR was so lucky there was no internet or cable news hawking hourly polls."

4. Logic Fail. Why do you correlate Obama's decision to increase troop levels with polling numbers?

7. Do you have a breakdown of the natural resources of Tonga?
I cannot answer the first question without knowing that, and looking into the business interests of our owners.

I agree, polls are stupid BS - there are lies, damn lies, and statistics. You can make them say whatever you want them to, depending on the question. I think the polls are just another bit of infotainment to keep people distracted.

They're a good method for implementing bandwagon-style propaganda into your overall campaign. The problem is that the pollsters are having fights amongst themselves, and coming out wit radically different numbers. This really diminishes the quality of the 'poll tool' in your propaganda toolbox. They should get that straightened out.

I suppose it could be that certain pollsters were becoming less trusted. I know Gallup's ties to the radical Christian Dominionist movement certainly perked up some ears. So we may need to shuffle, and that's the reason for all the discrepancies. They also seem to be somewhat geared to particular audiences, their trust quotient varies depending upon known demographics. Different demographics may have wildly varying opinion drivers and you could affect something that seems to be unrelated to the poll question via propaganda related to that poll - it wouldn't surprise me.

Polls have lost a lot of their sparkle anymore... the curse of success = overuse.

8. They have to fill that 24 hour news cycle with something.
And yes, I do think we should invade Tonga!
They provide a free education, have a 98% literacy rate, they enjoy universal health care, and "Tongan land is constitutionally protected and cannot be sold to foreigners..." Sound like a bunch of Commies!

9. How many of our children have been hurt by the sharp metal edges of Tonga toy trucks?
Time for PAYBACK as far as I'm concerned.
