Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 05:38 AM by Fumesucker
I'm well nigh sixty, am uninsured, have preexisting conditions, have been unemployed long enough that I'm on food stamps, have run out of unemployment benefits and am selling my blood plasma to get a few dollars.

And I think Kucinich is right, mandated private insurance is a vile idea and IMO unconstitutional.

There are some things more important to me than my own personal well being, not sending people to prison because they are poor is one of those things that I consider more important.

Debtors prisons went out of style a long time ago, I don't want to see them come back and that's what mandated private insurance will effectively do.

I invite your flames, I have my Nomex underoos on.

Edited due to poster's caffeine deficiency..

However I'm sure you are going to be called selfish and a purist for finding this idea disgusting.

2. Sometimes I think Dennis is the only one in Congress

with a functioning brain and common sense.

I am sorry things are so rough for you. Maybe you can get SSDI, if your preexisting conditions prevent you from working fulltime. It doesn't pay much but it's better then nothing and you have been paying into Social Security all the years you worked.

It's why I am not a member of any party anymore; two sides to the same shitty coin.

4. Since when do you speak for all who are uninsured?
Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 05:46 AM by BzaDem
Who are you to tell other uninsured people that it is OK that they get sick and go bankrupt and die, since you are so concerned about the mandate?

The Debtors prison bullshit is nothing more than a right wing talking point. The House bill does not mandate anything unless you can actually afford it. The mandate is nothing more than a tax increase and then a tax credit for those who buy health insurance (or can't afford it). I don't see any other posts where you liken differential tax treatment to debtors prisons. Your argument is bullshit.

14. Yeah, what vadawg said +1. How is it that these words just slide
Edited on Sun Nov-08-09 09:10 AM by Obamanaut
so easily across the keyboard "The mandate is nothing more than a tax increase..." when we were told all the way to Nov last year that there would not be one for incomes under that magic number.

Is the change to believe in just simply a different set of lips that these words so glibly pass? "Watch my lips, no new taxes"?

missed a spelling error.

9. I pay for only catastrophic care
and thats all I intend to pay for til Medicare is available to me in a few yrs. Just keeping my fingers crossed. They had better not expect me to pay for anything more. fuck that. they can send hordes of us to prison, we wont be alone at least, there are plenty of us out there who wont pay and cannot pay extra taxes for this if we cannot afford their mandate. they can take mandates and stick them where the sun doesnt shine.
but oh they have billions to send to 2 insane occupations and billions to bail out their friends.

10. when you are drowning...
do you care WHO throws you a life preserver?
The wise man grabs it and lives.
The fool waits for a better fitting one thrown by a less objectionable by-stander.
And dies waiting.

Instead, I'm sending best wishes that things turn around for you. As a previous poster stated, SSD is one option. However, I've been waiting for exactly a year already for my appeal hearing to be scheduled.

The SSD process problem is like everything else in this country, they're more than happy to deduct it from every paycheck you receive during your life. However, when you ask for what's rightfully yours, it's take a number and we'll call you after you're dead.

I'm in a lot better position than you since my wife is still working and I'm on her insurance plan, but the other things are pretty much what I'm going through so I can empathise with the frustration that you're experiencing.

SS seems to think that it's easy to get a job when you're in your 50's, have serious health problems and the only jobs available are ones that you're unable to perform because of the health problems.

Remain strong and keep the Nomex handy just in case.

13. We'll talk after I get my hip replaced and can function normally again.
I love Kucinich and agree with him completely, but if we wait for exactly what we want, it's never going to happen. If we can get a foot in the door, we can change the system over time. As for sending people to prison, it's never going to happen.

Then $ could be made on their slave labor, the same motivation behind locking away unprecedented numbers of fist offense, non-violent pot smokers. Sick, sick country.

25. yeah, good luck with that. So, are the taxpayers paying for your medical care now??
Just curious.. because at some point you are getting medical care, and obviously you have no interest in paying for it.

Perhaps when you get really sick, Saint Dennis the Irrelevant can come to your house and pray over you.
