It took me 4 ½ years to get here but I wanted to make this special post a THANK YOU to everyone at DU for being such good teachers, mentors, writers, spellers and grammarians. Just kidding on the last two… no...really!
Seriously, I wish I could remember the first day I went to DU and joined. Since then, I have laughed, cried, ranted, raged, smiled, thought, re-thought, read and re-read not every post, but a lot of them. DU is my home page and when things are slow, I check in. My friends are always asking ‘Where did you find that?” or when confronting idiocy (Hey, I live in Georgia, all right?), ‘I didn’t know that.’ On the leisure side, I found the Photography Forum and have used and abused them to review and critique my photographs. What a great bunch of folks they are!
I know there’s such a diverse array of opinions, even if we are all considered ‘liberal’ (I love that word. I mean… didn’t we all go to liberal arts colleges? They aren’t called conservative arts, are they?) I’ve had some eye-opening experiences because of people much different from myself… women, people of color, the physically and mentally different, ardent heterosexuals (ardent?), northerners, Canadians (eh?), westerners, city folk and rural folk. What a beautiful quilt work we are!
So, this is probably the longest post I will make unless some shit REALLY blows up! We have our ups and downs (Obama…yay! Maine…boo! GOP…double boo!) but I know that America will make it. Did you see that we are the most admired (not sure we deserve most admired, but somewhere up there, I would think) and that most people in the world want to see us, hear us and visit us. Come on down/over/up! We are not all (THANK GOD) teabaggers. We are not all stupid. We are not all malicious, close-minded xenophobic, homophobic racists.
So…thanks for the mammaries (damn spell check!), DU and keep it coming.
Signed, Your Atlanta Friend Curt
