It's time for the silent majority to demand the same benefits that Capital Hill enjoys.
I know it's an old report but I think we need to remind them, that we are only asking for what they already have.

Special Health Care for Congress: Lawmakers' Health Care Perks
This fall while members of Congress toil in the U.S. Capitol, working to decide how or even whether to reform the country's health care system, one floor below them an elaborate Navy medical clinic -- described by those who have seen it as something akin to a modern community hospital -- will be standing by, on-call and ready to provide Congress with some of the country's best and most efficient government-run health care.
Formally called the Office of the Attending Physician, the clinic -- and at least six satellite offices it supports -- bills its mission as one of emergency preparedness and public health. Each day, it stands ready to handle medical emergencies, biological attacks and the occasional fainting tourist visiting Capitol Hill.

The video shows the care they enjoy, while denying care to their constituents.
Most of us would be ecstatic if our monthly premiums were just $503.00, they get all the primary care they need for just $503.00 annually.

1. I'd rather Congresspeople be on the "PO", paying >12% of their income
for services.

4. I agree. The question we should ask is, why are we the taxpayers subsidizing their health care.
while many of us go without.

5. yep... Their pay is what? 160K? or something like that? so
for a single person, that 12% would be about $19,200.

2. You know what's funny? "Joe Wilson Proposes Forcing Congress Onto Government Health Insurance Plan"
The only news outfit to take it seriously was fox, so that is all I have to link to:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/04/wilson-proposes-forcing-congress-government-health-insurance-plan/

"Republican Rep. Joe Wilson proposed an amendment Wednesday that would force all members of Congress to receive health insurance coverage through the government-run plan proposed in the House's reform bill. "

The whole stunt made me fighting mad.

Thanks so much for you link

3. Federal Employee Health Benefits
An Insurance Exchange. Good grief how many times does this have to be posted.

6. I realize they are offered the same health care benefits as all federal employees
It's the additional perk of primary care for $503.00 annually that I was focusing on. Plus the ability to pool large numbers. With everybody in and nobody out we would be able lower our health care cost and ensure a healthier society.

http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2009/08/when_oregon_sen_ron_wyden.html

Across the Capitol from Wyden, Rep. Earl Blumenauer decided not to use the federal plan. Instead, he is covered by LifeWise of Oregon under his wife's policy as an employee of Northwest Natural. Blumenauer's spokeswoman Erin Allweiss said the congressman also pays about $500 a year for access to Congress' medical clinic, which handles colds, first aid and other minor matters.
The nine staffers in Blumenauer's Capitol Hill office use a range of health plans, including Kaiser, Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Those choices highlight the advantage of the gigantic federal system, which pools workers to increase bargaining power. A small business the size of Blumenauer's staff would generally offer only one choice of health plan -- if insurance is offered at all.

7. The Insurance Exchange is pooling large numbers
In fact, it's based on the federal employee model.

If you don't want Congress to have onsite medical care, we should get it shut down or limit it to visitors only. That's fine with me.

But the fact remains, when people keep saying they want the same plan as Congress, it's generally an insurance exchange which is the exact thing they turn around and say they don't want because it's not single payer. That's as nuts as the people on Medicare who say they don't want government insurance.
