Fuck it Obama is the man
He is in a no win situation. I believe in him, I supported him in every way. I admit as a white liberal, I felt unimaginable pride when Barack Obama was elected. I have been a little hard on him, but that is because I put so much into his campaign. He understands the game he has to play, politics suck. He is smarter than those who underestimate him. He will get the job done. Fuck the obstructionists in congress, he will prevail. We have to stand behind him, slings and arrows have been cast his way.

I think Mr. Obama is a whole lot smarter than these self proclaimed political geniuses. Look at the the opposition, they are splintering as we speak. Let's back Mr. Obama and trust he is smarter than Rove and his ilk. Say what you want about Rahm, he gets the job done. We are in a new era of politics and I think Obama is keenly aware of this. Let's keep the faith, Barack Obama is the one guy who relates to us all. Agree or disagree, I welcome all responses. Love and positive vibes to my fellow DU friends and enemies.

Peace,
Max

37. Unfortunately politics is politics
Especially the house, they have to be re-elected every two years. They are constantly on the stump. Public finance of campaigns is the answer IMHO. Obama cannot over reach at this point. He is getting much done, but Washington being what is is he is like Sisyphus rolling the stone up the hill.

I don't care. I love Obama, he is the first president I can relate to. Besides my wedding and the birth of my child, voting and ensuring Obama is president is one of the greatest moments in my life. Fuck racism, anti-semitism and the fuckers who automatically un-rec posts. I don't care. The republicans have to deal with the fact that they are getting older, while the prog/dems are getting younger. As the sage Bob Dylan said "get out of the way if you can't lend a hand...for the times are a'changing." Dylan is the man (sorry just my editorial comment). One last point, get rid of Harry Reid and put Durbin is his place, he has been my senator for years and he will do us proud. He is a good and decent man, he learned from the best Paul Simon.

Peace and much love,

I remember the helplessness I felt in 2003...the country marching enexorably towards war and a 1000 year Reich of Busco...I thought anything...any glimmer of HOPE and I would be shocked.

What a difference 5 years makes!

It will take many many years to turn this around but it will we have no other way...and for those who cannot wait you need to look upon your history; no real change has ever happened in 9 months.

letters reminding the democrats how they got there and that WE are still here. I don't mind the complaining if it is directed in the right way...I just can't stand how the good is taken for granted at best and ignored at worst.

A good portion of this country was uplifted by the election alone. We must remember that and then make the elected stand firm.

What has he changed ? All I here is what he inherited and that is a first. He wanted this position yet still funds the damn wars. He siad he was going to to go line by line to see wht signing statements GW put in that broke the constitution what the hell happened to that?

Go ahead and stand by some political figure head , so far after all these years we still have wars and thingshave gotten worse and screw hope that is something you find within yourself it is not some campaign slogan,NO funking ONE can give you hope.

Hope for what , it takes the people not some word tossed out like so much shit .

And no I did not un-rec this topic I could care less it means nothing.

21. Yeah, because we ALL know that it was humanly possible to withdraw the troops on Day two.
Get real. We didn't want these wars, but we have them. And abruptly pulling all the troops out at once is dangerous to the troops. But ideologues don't care about that. They sit at their computer and criticize "politicians" for not doing everything exactly the way THEY want it to be done.

I utterly despise the sophomoric anti-politician meme. It's lazy thinking.

35. You know what , pull your head out of your ass
Do you actually think what you said actually means anything , where the hell have you been . WE as america have done nothing other than promote wars and death for decades and you think anyone who leaps into the seat will change that. It was not just GW , it's been going on all of my 61 years and no matter who was president it never changed.

It's all a damn political game , slogans and speeches that have no end .

Obama will come and go just all the others and still we will be doing the same thing.

Just when and how do you think wars end , look at the past. WE get our ass kicked. There is only one way stop funding the damn things.

Do you actuaally think that anyone in the ME wants us there and wants us to control their country , well not anymore than you would want them to control ours.

Think about that before you come up with the same old talking points I have heard since Vietnam.

You tell me how we get out and when , 5 years , 10 years , 15?

It is a fucking military money making game with death as the peoples price tag. Or don't you get that ?

I probably agree with you more than this post might suggest...about how things always just stay the same, blah blah...but it seems to me that you are really off base with an attitude such as yours. Obama means something to the people who voted for him that is about generations and generations of individual struggle and pain that has absolutely NOTHING to do with white men's wars. It's not ALL JUST A FUCKING MILITARY GAME here, okay?

58. I was not part of Reagan , you can't just go by a generation
And just use it to make a blanket statement like that. That's like saying anyone from a certain generation is racist. I have heard this statement used over and over and it means nothing , it is news speak. No one decides when they are born but one they are they decide what they do.

I'll tell you exactly what needs to change in politics if it is ever to work for the people.

Cut the funding from corporations and lobby groups who put in place candidates that willfully do their bidding , not yours or mine. This is why nothing has ever changed and stuck, it is always about money and power. Also elections should be based soley on the popular vote not on delegates which after all sort of an inside job, add to this it is the commities who decide who they will run in any given election we don't get to vote until after the fact. So it ends up, here is who they back , pick one.

If the people continue to allow the political parties to make all the rules in their own interests and all the laws to suit themselves then what is the definition of both political parties. Obama may be in office 4 or 8 years then after that someone else comes along and changes the furnature. Hell the congress give themself raises and do we have a say in that , hell no.

Also the military is a large part of where the tax money is spent , it is the largest piece of the pie.

Listen to this show from Guy James he spells it out pretty clearly.

Yet you must also include in that statement each one ran for that position at will. Obama had to have some idea of what this involved , if not then he was not looking very close. He knew how the economy was going and the wars and he decided to take them on.

If it were not for the enormous amounts of money to get elected which climbs each election and if it were not for all the promises never kept yeah then maybe. But this is not how it is.

Go back through all the elections and look at the slogans. see what the end result was and then you will know why we are where we are now.

46. I don't know if LSD is the answer
But people need something to bring it down to a reality that for once that race and where you live does not make an enemy. How do we reach a point where people are all seen as people who all just want the smae basic things.

I can tell you politics is not the way because it never sticks. It is a game made up of influence, popularity and money driven by corporate interests which have never had the peoples interest in mind , never.

We have a plush whitehouse and capital building and a wall with 58,000 names on it not far away and head stones in Arlington that go on forever plus graves all over the globe where people died and still what has changed from all of this? There are grand places all over the globe that are home to the powers that be yet who suffers and pays for this , ordinary people who where forced into wars and now here we are in 2009 , war is still a profit off death and it has expanded to health care being profit off death and we somehow call this progress. It is not progress , it is a never ending enrichment for the top who made their profit off of ordinary peoples suffering and death. People who normally would never hate each other yet re told and convinced they must.

There is only one way to end this and that is to say no , we will not do this anymore , not for one more second . It has to end one day or it will never end so why not now ? If not now then it will be never , this has to be known.

We would not be in the ME if there were no oil or gas. You know this and I do and anyone who does not should be cut out end of story.

He blew me away when he gave the keynote speech in 2004. When he announced, I didn't think he had a prayer against Hillary, his age, and ok, I'll be honest - I didn't think America had the balls to vote for a black man for President. I too am honored that we've come this far but, I see and hear racism about his Presidency everyday, up close and personal. Being white, some whites think I must think like them. Assholes.

I'm proud that he's our President, he's doing the best he can as fast as he can. I for one am going to cut him some slack. :applause: to the First Family!!

but I can't seem to muster up enough amnesia to forget how my heart and conscience have been torn apart by the war crimes of the Bush/Cheney admin..

63. Nobody gets everything they want
I was just speaking to the fact that we control both houses and the White house. Unfortunately, the tail is waggin' the dog. I am really disappointed in the fact Obama didn't twist arms. He's not perfect, he will get better.

Peace,
Max
