Local arrest takes six Police and 20 Taser stuns to subdue man.

This was in today's paper. It started with a local man violating a PFA order. In the old days, I know that PCP was usually the culprit when something like this occurred. What present day drugs would give one man this kind of strength?

Article from today's paper:

A melee erupted early Friday as Altoona police tried to arrest a man accused of violating a protection-from-abuse order.

Six officers were injured, police said.

Matthew Scott Mallory, 23, of 147 Cranberry St., Tyrone, was allegedly inside the 14th Avenue apartment of a woman who had a PFA order against him, court documents state. She arrived home and found him inside. Their confrontation became physical and moved outside.

Altoona officers arrived at around 1 a.m. and found Mallory arguing with the woman and her sister in the middle of 14th Avenue. When police confronted Mallory about violating the PFA and tried to arrest him, he clenched his fist and "immediately took a defensive position," police said.

Court documents describe officers having their hands full, trying to handcuff Mallory.

Some of the comments at the end of the article are interesting to read.
They even manage to smear the ACLU in the comments.

1. He is not dead because of that taser.
had the police used live ammo he may have been a bit worse for the wear.

3. I wasn't questioning the use of the taser.
I'm just curious as to what could do that to a person to enable him to withstand that much force as though it had no affect on him.

These stories were common 30 years ago, but I didn't think that PCP was still around and that's the only thing that I ever saw give someone almost super human strength.

4. You aren't but many people on DU seem to think tasers are evil.
They are probably overused and cops are probably often undertrained for using them, but it's important to note that in situations like this they do save lives.

8. I'm not a huge fan of tasers, but they can be useful when properly used.
Of course, the use of tasers (like anything) can be abused.

I was just thinking that maybe they didn't have enough training or that there's a new super human drug going around.

I used to hate being around people on PCP because they were so dangerous if they went off on someone.

5. People jacked up adrenaline can break handcuffs.
I knew a scrawny guy in the military who would break everything in sight all by himself when pushed. He broke the handcuffs and beat the crap out of a whole bunch of shore patrol.Tore the room apart. Tore the payphone off the wall and attacked the short patrol reinforcements with it. They had to put him in a straight jacket kind of device to "sort of" subdue him. He was still trying to hit stuff with his head. A bunch of the short patrol needed medical treatment.

6. The picture in the paper made it look as though he was on the light side.
And there are the stories about kids and adults being able to lift a car off of someone due to an adrenaline rush so that makes sense I guess.

I don't think that a single person has ever injured that many Police at one time here before. That's what piqued my curiosity.

7. Yep, size isn't all that good an indicator of how dangerous someone is..
Some people just have a lot higher power to weight ratio than others, get someone who is skinny but strong and let them go out of their head on adrenaline and they can be remarkably destructive.

It's that berserker rage..

9. We do have one guy around here who put quite a few people in the ER years ago.
This was right after Vietnam and this guy was a bodyguard for the South Vietnamese Ambassador to the US or UN or something like that.

He was a real nice guy but a lot of people would start to hassle him since he was from Vietnam. He always made it a point to warn them that he was capable of hurting all of them so they should just leave him alone.

Racists being racists, they would still attack him. After a few cases where he was outnumbered 7 or 8 to one and still mamaged to seriously mess up all of them, people left him alone.

I was glad that Sen was a friend because I wouldn't want him mad at me.
He was maybe 5'6" and around 125 pounds, but the people that got physical with him thought that he was a giant.
