Two U.S. Congressmen want to designate Venezuela as a state sponsor of terrorism

wo South Florida congressmen introduced a resolution yesterday to officially designate Venezuela as a state sponsor of terrorism.

According to the News Sun-Sentinel, Ron Klein, a Democrat from Boca Raton, and Connie Mack, a Republican from Fort Myers, cited Venezuela’s alleged ties to the FARC, an terrorist group in Colombia, and Hizballah, a Middle Eastern terrorist group sponsored by the Iran government and based in Lebanon.

"The evidence linking Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez to the FARC and Hezbollah – two of the most dangerous terrorist organizations, responsible for many bombings, kidnappings, killings and drug trafficking – is overwhelming," Mack said in a statement announcing the resolution.

The Venezuelan government has strong economic ties to three of the four countries currently on the state sponsor list—Cuba, Iran, and Syria.

Florida congressmen know that the huge Cuban community hates Fidel Castro and by extension, Hugo Chavez, who is his friend. By pandering to this bloc, these congressmen secure votes and support from a very important group.

2. The evidence linking the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation

formerly known as the School of the Americas, to death squads and right wing dictatorships throughout Central and South America which are responsible for political assassinations, kidnappings, killings and drug trafficking is overwhelming.

I move we designate the United States as a state sponsor of terrorism.

EDIT: the day we end the embargo on Cuba is the day that this 'very important voting bloc' becomes irrelevant.

3. There is no evidence linking Venezuela to either group.
But I'm sure the allegation will raise $$$ for these two hucksters.

5. Yes, Venezuela would be much better for corporations if we can just get a right-wing dictator

installed like the CIA just help do in Honduras.

How nice it would be if our US corporations could get richer by controlling Venezuela's huge oil reserves, their large produce exports, tourism & cheap labor....not to mention, stopping the spread of progressive liberal ideas like socialism for all the Venezuelan people, not just for the rich & corporations like in the US.

Yes, that's what Venezuela needs, a right-wing republican puppet dictator, who is kind to American corporations....not a democratically 62% ELECTED liberal, who insist that US corporations must pay their fair share of taxes to Venezuela for the resources they want to profit on.

Good think our CIA is hard at work each and every day, using our tax dollars trying to find ways to overthrow and make imperialism happen for American corporations in Venezuela.

7. Also, South Florida is the place where many wealthy Venezuelan elites keep condos,
or larger second homes. (It's also a place where ex-president (impeached for massive corruption) Carlos Andres Perez keeps a home, as well as in New York, and Colombia) He's the one who demanded his police (many who refused) and his military to fire directly into crowds of protesting poor people who poured into the streets when he announced a severe increase in the cost of their heating oil, bus transportation, and food. He killed around 3,000 people in "El Caracazo" massacre.)

The wealthy Venezuelans have bonded with the right-wing ultra-reactionary part of the Cuban community in Florida, even had a joint parade, featuring two guests, the men responsible for the attempt to destroy the Venezuelan economy and Hugo Chavez, the business community's work lock-out in the oil industry. They held their anti-Chavez parade on a Saturday when the whole world had turned out in Europe, Asia, the U.S., etc. to protest the coming war George W. Bush was building against Iraq.

Venezuela rode out the managers' work lock out, and started repairing the damage done to the economy.
