Bill Requiring Signs At Pro-Life Centers Debated
BALTIMORE -- City Hall was the site of heated debate Tuesday over a new proposal requiring pro-life pregnancy centers to post signs detailing what they don't provide certain services.

Experts on both sides of the issue said this is the first legislation of its kind in the country, bringing the national abortion debate to downtown Baltimore. Supporters said the rule will force the clinics to be up front about their services, but opponents said it's harassment.

On Tuesday morning, several pro-life supporters kept a steady vigil outside City Hall in hopes that City Council Bill 09-0406 wouldn't make it past the judiciary committee.

The measure would require limited service pregnancy centers to post a disclaimer saying that the center does not provide abortion, birth control services or referrals to clients.

City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake introduced the measure earlier this month.

5. I'm not sure what you are against.
Do you want the anti-choice people to leave pregnant women alone?

or do you want the legislators to leave the "crisis pregnancy centers" alone?

Personally, I hope this legislation passes and these centers are required to be honest up front with everyone who walks in the door that they will not offer any abortion, birth control, birth control information, or referrals. They get people by deception, and then harass people for being pregnant. :(

3. You'd think they'd wear their "pro-life" stance on their sleeve.
Oh wait, that would interfere with their use of misleading, inaccurate information and scare tactics to take away the women's ability to make their own informed decisions about what is best for them.

"Pro-life", my ass.

7. Requiring people to be upfront and honest instead of being deceptive?
Yea, that's harassment alright! :sarcasm:
