Steve Phillips gets tossed from the game
via USA Today:

ESPN's Steve Phillips fired over sex scandal
The Associated Press

Baseball analyst Steve Phillips was fired by ESPN on Sunday night, less than a week after he admitted having an affair with a production assistant at the cable network.

A representative for Phillips also announced the former Mets general manager was entering a treatment facility "to address his personal issues."

Phillips' acknowledgment Wednesday of his relationship with 22-year-old Brooke Hundley was splashed across the New York tabloids for days, embarrassing the Bristol, Conn.-based sports giant.

"Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN," network spokesman Josh Krulewitz said in a statement. "His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways." .........(more)

12. I don't think policies prohibiting sex with subordinates is puritanical.
How many of those same subordinates lost their jobs for not giving in to the advances of someone senior to them?

13. It's not only puritanical, it's wrong and oppressive.
Of course anyone who uses their power at work to obtain sex should be fired on the spot. However, two adults who work together and have sex on their own time is of no consequence. Trying to stop such relationships is not only pointless, it's stupid.

2. It seems the production assistant was fired, too.
I'm assuming this is about more than a little affair. It must have slopped over into their professional lives somehow.

9. She was harrassing the wife and the 16-year-old son.
A police report was filed. I'd say ESPN was smart to get her the hell out of there.

10. Hm. Fatal Attraction Lite.
Crazy how these people who have affairs with someone feel entitled to their money, lives, family, etc.

6. It seriously annoys me that this stuff still happens.
Nobody gives a shit about Steve Phillips' sex life! It had nothing to do with his analysis of baseball, why fret about it. It's like how I wasn't opposed to Mark Sanford's ordeal just because he did it, but because of it being hypocritical to his family values stance, and the use of public funds. If it has nothing to do with your job, let it be, for crying out loud!

7. Shoulda just gone to a prostitute
Last time I looked, Marv Albert still has his job, though it's not with ESPN. Phillips (and Hundley) probably has some kind of morals clause in his contract that allows ESPN/ABC/Disney (Oh yeah, it's a Disney company, isn't it?) to can his ass if he brings shame and public tut-tutting on his employer.

So, what kind of "treatment" is he in for? How to resist the blandishments of attractive underlings with whom he's in constant daily contact? Just lace the company coffee makers and water coolers with saltpeter.

14. Remember when he was GM of the Mets...
he took a short personal time off to address a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him.
Frank Cashen, the genius of 1986, stepped in for that time being on an interim basis.

15. ESPN was probably freaking out over a potential lawsuit, after his previous
incident (From the USA Today story):

"In 1998, Steve Phillips admitted having sex with a Mets employee, who sued for sexual harassment. That case was settled out of court. Phillips was fired by the Mets in 2003."
