A former child actor is partnering with a local publisher to distribute altered copies of Charles Darwin’s “The Origin of Species” to university students across the country in November - around the time of the 150th anniversary of the book’s original publishing.

In September, Kirk Cameron, best known for his role in the 1980s sitcom “Growing Pains,” announced in a YouTube video plans to distribute the book with Living Waters Ministry at the 100 top U.S. universities. snip

Lloyd Hildebrand, Bridge-Logos CEO, said that Comfort has a long history with the company. His other titles include “God Doesn’t Believe in Atheists,” “How to Win Souls & Influence People” and “Intelligent Design vs. Evolution.” snip

“The Genesis Flood” by John C. Whitcomb was published a year later, and Smocovitis said that is considered the start of the modern evangelical movement, which now has a celebrity spokesperson in Cameron. She said Cameron isn’t a credible source on evolution, but he is free to share his opinion.

“It’s a free country,” she said. “He can do what he wants, and I am free to say he is out of his mind.”

1. Celebrity spokesperson? Celebrity?
I guess this is what passes for celebrity in right-wing America. They should be so proud. :eyes:

And Chuck Norris. And many others who landed on their heads when the fame bus came to a sudden stop.

2. Isn't This More Of A Critique?
Rather than actually altering Darwin's work even though the article does use the word altered. If they changed the original context wouldn't that be copyright infringement?

10. Apparently, Ray Comb (Cameron's pal in stupidity) has added his own 50 page introduction.
This introduction makes the false conntection between Dawin and Hitler. Ten bucks half the idiots who take that introduction seriously will think Darwin and Hitler were college roommates. (We're not talking the top of the gene pool here.)

3. WTF?
Why are these fuggers so afraid of the truth?
An altered copy of Darwin's book is no longer Darwin's book.

4. Kirk Cameron is living proof that Darwin was correct.
He is the personification of an evolutionary dead end.

5. Kirk Cameron is mentally ill.
Watching him in this bizarre quest against reason, one can only feel pity.

9. FAIL
Kirk Cameron may be a right-wing, science-hating boob, but you are in no position to throw the "mental illness" crap around.

A lot of us on DU have battled our own demons; depression, bipolar, eating disorders, and other conditions. We have enough trouble dealing with societal stigmas without so-called progressives adding to the problem by using "mentally ill" as shorthand for "politically wrong".

11. I Would LOVE To See Kirk Cameron Have A Debate With Ricky Gervais
Not only would Ricky Gervais give him the mental thrashing, it would be utterly hilarious, because everything Ricky says or does is funny.

14. Terrific! An ignorant commentary appended to the theory of evolution as it was
150 years ago.
