Nothing But Praise for Pelosi Thread.
Our Speaker of the House is marshaling her team on so many fronts that I'm almost dizzy.

Nancy Pelosi delivered three bills with public options BEFORE the Summer Break BEFORE the town hall nonsense. She led when the Senate punted.

Speaker Pelosi's Judiciary Committee today voted 29 to 0 to remove the insurance corps exemption from the anti-trust laws.

Yesterday she announced the House version would save more money than Senator Baucus' "conservative" bill. She cuts cost more than he did and covers more people.

Today, Pelosi's troops are signaling re-branding the Public Option to an expansion of Medicare, something Congressman Kucinich called for quite a while back and something Thom Hartmann is calling for on Air America.

This is the same Pelosi who opposed the Iraqi War and who I am so damned proud of that it would be nice to hear some worthy praise for her here at the DU.

Speaker Pelosi, you rock! :yourock:

16. I've always believed in Nancy. She's got her sea legs now. She's the boss. And she's great!
Yeh, I know what you mean. So much trashing of Nancy. I think that's part of why I posted this thread.
She truly deserves our respect. She's done it. Thanks, HughMoran!

3. Gotta hand it to her on this
I admit I haven't been an unwavering fan of Pelosi like Ed Schultz....

But she's been out front on this HCR issue for months.

I only hope the consequences of her actions rub off on Harry Reid.

20. The Difference Between Having The Votes And Not...
She knows she can get the 219 or more in the House and she has allies to help push it through the Senate...as well as a friendly executive. A far cry from what she had to work with from 2006-2008.

15. I'm going to hesitatingly k/r this...
Pelosi isn't someone I've respected in the past, so I'm suspicious of whether or not Pelosi isn't simply running interference.

Still, I support what she's presently saying and her tone 100%.

There were times when I was beyond frustrated with Nancy Pelosi,("impeachment is off the table") however, I have to say I've come around to seeing the wisdom of her ways.

26. I remember when her House in '06-'08
Edited on Thu Oct-22-09 05:23 PM by Occam Bandage
recorded the highest frequency of opposition to a sitting President in modern history. That was pretty neat. They didn't give Bush a thing he wanted. They were against him on a higher percentage of votes than even the Republicans managed to be under Clinton.

Are you talking about her failure to impeach him? I remember how we only had 51 votes (including Lieberman) but needed 67 to convict. Ah, but I'm sure the Republicans would have happily voted with us on that one, right? Just look at how happy they are to vote with us now!

Edited on Thu Oct-22-09 05:28 PM by Occam Bandage
Oh, are you one of those people who thought that if we didn't fund a withdrawal, the soldiers would all magically be whisked away home on flying carpets? That must be a fun world to live in!

I'm sure if we didn't fund the war, Bush would have found the money to withdraw them with. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to dig his heels in and let the army grind to a halt in Iraq. Republicans would never shut down any part of the government as a publicity stunt.

32. If that was the case then why did the Dems make it their main platform?
If I recall the Dems were guilted into funding it , that is to say they did not support the troops if they did not fund the war. I guess that means you are saying that all the people who protested and the get out of Iraq groups the soldiers themselves formed were all wrong.

I do feel if the funding was stopped GW would have had no choice other than to use the money they already had to pull the troops out. They were not out of money this was money they projected that was needed to continue months down the road , it was not as if there was a dry well.

34. the PO is NOT Medicare!
They're proposing CALLING the PO "Medicare E" when it's still the same non-government, for-profit, expensive mandated insurance that will have nothing whatsoever to do with Medicare. That is not something praise should be given for. In fact she should be slammed for it. And for shame on everyone that has already bought into this name change swindle.
