WH takes another shot at Fox

Two White House officials on Sunday fired another salvo in the administration's ongoing feud with Fox News.

“It’s not a news organization so much as it has a perspective, and that’s a different take," White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel told CNN's "State of the Union." "And more importantly, it’s important not to have the CNN’s and the others of the world being led and following Fox, as if what they’re trying to do is a legitimate news organization."

"It's not really a news organization," White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod said on ABC's' "This Week." "We're going to appear on their shows, we're going to participate, but understanding they have a point of view."

Both Emanuel and Axelrod's lines on Sunday are sure to add fuel to a fire first inflamed by adviser Anita Dunn, who charged last week that Fox was the "communications arm of the Republican Party." It was the second time Dunn rebuked the network in October; previously, she insisted the channel was "opinion journalism masquerading as news."

Fox News, as expected, has reacted equally aggressively to the White House's original comments. Last week, Senior Vice President of News Michael Clemente insisted his channel's audience was able to distinguish fact and opinion on his network.

"The average news consumer can certainly distinguish between the A section of the newspaper and the editorial page, which is what our programming represents," he explained. "So, with all due respect to anyone who still might be confused about the difference between news reporting and vibrant opinion, my suggestion would be to talk about the stories and the facts rather than attack the messenger…which over time, has never worked."

Interestingly enough, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace said earlier today he invited the president's advisers to his show to discuss the brewing spat. However, he added, the White House declined any interview on the matter.

1. The people I know who watch fox
thinks I'm nutts when I tell them they are watching and listening to, in some cases treasonous talk, and at best only bullshit. They have a whole different take on any and everything news wise than us who don't and won't go there. I barely will watch a football game on fox noise.

3. Fox News uses a trick from religion:
they claim that they're the only ones telling the truth and all the other channels are trying to mislead you.

It's a simple technique that worked well for the world's major religions so it isn't surprising that it works on the gullible and impressionable, especially conservatives who want to believe the comforting pablum that Fox peddles.

4. and especially if they alrady think along those lines anyway.
The realization that the church I grew up in, Southern Baptist, advocated that you had to believe like they do that made me take a hard look at religion which led to my coming to my senses and not believing in the gawd thing any longer, none of it.

12. I think that's what amazes me about faux
they can be so pro one minute and then do a complete 180 and be so anti the next and the viewers never question the Faux. I mean we went into Iraq because of rape rooms and torture rooms blah, blah blah... the next thing you know faux is telling you it's ok to rape and torture. Even religions have more trouble holding followers than Faux.

2. DEMs need to boycott FUX - entirely
no participation - and those that do should lose their committee seats immediately.

Do NOT Legitimize the FUX Propaganda Machine

5. We can go beyond that
1. We can boycott any company that advertises on Fox stations (and write to the company to tell them so)

2. Whenever the stations and/or cable companies have their licenses come up for renewal, the public is always invited to comment. We should comment in large numbers.

3. We can write our local, state, and federal legislators to point out the many treasonous things that come out of Fox, how much of a danger they are to the US, and urge them to do all in their power to shut Fox down.

If we shut down just a few stations, it will make the rest leary and probably get some of the worst shows (e.g. Beck) cancelled and/or get a little more balanced perspective brought to the other programs.

10. Fox Television Stations, Inc. - Earth Station call sign E970411
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 10:28 AM by FreakinDJ
Contrary to what some people might think they are required to maintain a FCC license

http://www.fcc.gov/eb/Orders/2009/DA-09-1247A1.html

and here....

http://tampabay.bizjournals.com/tampabay/stories/2005/01/03/daily9.html">Journalists petition FCC to challenge Fox-13 license renewal

EACH email or FAX to an affiliate (actual broadcaster, not the network) ask that the comment be placed in their "FCC Public File." They are required to comply with your request.

This "Public File" is reviewed by the FCC each time that station's license is up for renewal. Not getting a license renewed means the station is worthless.

Give your opinion that the broadcaster is "Not acting in the public interest" and give detailed reasoning.

We can specifically start slamming each affiliate under the FCC "Equal Time Rule."

6. People in the WH have nothing better to do than have a back and forth with a TV network?

acts that play for news on Faux.

9. Good ... Fox "News" is the biggest misnomer of all time.

They should be known far and wide for exactly what they are ... the propaganda arm of the corrupt and evil rethuglican party.
