Moms Donate Breast Milk To Infant
Girl's Mother Died Shortly After Giving Birth
CASSELBERRY, Fla. -- A group of Central Florida mothers have come together to help an infant -- whose mother died suddenly after giving birth -- by providing breast milk to the girl.
Amanda Pacheco, of Casselberry, organized an effort to generate breast milk for the infant daughter of a 33-year-old Central Florida woman who died in her sleep in September shortly after giving birth.
Pacheco knows the father of the infant and offered to pump breast milk for his infant daughter. She then posted a message about it in an online Yahoo! chat.
"Women were just coming out of the woodwork. People were telling their friends about it, and I knew we had to do some screening to make sure that the milk was safe," Pacheco said. "She just passed away a couple weeks ago, and so it's amazing that all of this has happened in a couple weeks."
Pacheco said all donor moms are screened for HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and HTLV. The donors cannot smoke or take medications or illicit drugs.
