2. It looks like a dove in black-face or some early 20th Century cartoon of a black dove.

6. It's a black dove, not a dove in black face. Click on the cartoon

3. My dear dixiegrrrrl...
I couldn't figure it out at first...

Then it hit.

The dove is black, because Obama is.

VERY appropriate, IMHO...

9. I'm sure they meant well, but...
it seems awkward for them to point out his race. For one thing, Obama isn't the first black person to win the award...off the top of my head, I'm thinking M.L. King and Desmond Tutu, and probably others.

11. I agree - I don't read it as malicious, but it is a little awkward.

Just not quite right. (He is kind of cute though.) (The dove, I mean, not the President.) (Okay, to be honest, I think the President is cute, too. Call me, Barack!)

12. I'm just trying to understand here--what is offensive about it?
My son is mixed race, so I am rather sensitive to racial bias, but it doesn't bother me (or my son) at all.

15. Like I said, I don't take it as offensive
But what is the purpose of pointing out his race? It's not a first for people of color.

4. It's actually a compliment to Obama
Other countries aren't racist against blacks in the way Americans are.

If a woman had won the cartoonist probably would have made the dove pink.

5. Is it a dove or a crow?
I've seen white doves and grey doves, but I've never seen a black dove.

8. My Spanish sucks
But it looks like a less serious article. And it looks more like a duck than a pigeon/dove to me. Take just the title, and run it through a translator (http://babelfish.yahoo.com) and it will translate the Spanish into English.

14. Translated version of the page, via Google Translator
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.elpais.com%2Fglobal%2F&sl=es&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

The caption on the link to the comic is:
"Forges and The Nobel. So you see the humorist COUNTRY granting the award to Obama." (Acutally, "So you see the humorist of EL PAÍS granting the award to Obama.")
