after almost a decade of being a rogue state
the United States has restored diplomatic relations with most of the world.

just in terms of diplomatic channels being used AT ALL, rather than bluster and strong-arm tactics, is a MAJOR improvement since January.

and I'm not really thinking in terms of actual achievements, but just that the tone has changed, that the possibility for communication exists, is much improvement. that's the improvement we're going to get right now, regardless of what pleases us personally.

1. the U.S. has been a "rogue state" since the cold war....
The Bush administration is an unrealistically low standard. See http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Economic-Hit-John-Perkins/dp/1576753018
