ACORN names former Mass. Attorney General as investigator
The community activist group ACORN said Tuesday it has selected a former Massachusetts attorney general to investigate its housing program after employees were caught on video giving advice to a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp.

Democrat Scott Harshbarger will conduct the internal investigation.

Harshbarger was Massachusetts attorney general in the 1990s. He later ran unsuccessfully for governor before becoming head of the government watchdog group Common Cause, where he pushed for tougher campaign finance laws.

Harshbarger currently is an attorney in Boston with the law firm Proskauer Rose LLP, where his specialties include corporate governance and corporate defense and investigations.

1. Harshbarger is a good man
and a very zealous investigator. (If anything, he over-prosecutes.)

I think this is a good move. Scott's outlook, after his loss for the governorship in 1998, was vastly improved by his service at Common Cause. He is an excellent and very fair-minded choice.

3. +1
Good for them to have Harshbarger defending them. He is tenacious and well versed in managing public presentations of the case -- something that ACORN sorely needs right now.
