help! My cousin was quoted in the NY Times against the public option
and chances are I'm going to see him tomorrow at my grandfather's birthday party. I haven't seen him in 5 years, and I really am not the confrontational type. He may question me though cause of the Obama stickers on my car. Do I dare wear my HR676 sticker?

1. Tell him he embarrassed you enough in the national papers, you don't want to talk about it.

4. WE HAVE A WINNER!
That's about as good a remark as can be made.

You might add that he's entitled to his ignorance, but you're not about to engage in a battle of wits with someone who is not armed............................

6. Some say that the concept of a family performing an honor killing is backwards and barbaric
;-) Just joking.

Mock him a bit, that's enough.

7. Beat him within an inch of his life.
:sarcasm:

At least that's what some here believe the solution is when people disagree with you.

We are the party that won. Our issues are supported by 75% of the public.
Let him throw a tantrum.

13. Be polite and don't mention his indiscretion.
If he brings up your Obama stickers, point out that it's a family event and he doesn't want to embarrass himself again -- the NY Times mention was bad enough.

15. Ask him why, if it's such a poor choice,
the vast majority of people in Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Germany, France...and the list goes on...are pretty happy with what they've got and wouldn't swap their system for yours for a million bucks.

Greetings from Australia

17. We Can't Choose our Relatives
but I have learned how to ignore them even at family reunions and birthday parties. Ignoring them is the best outcome for the rest of the family, make your grandfathers' birthday peaceful.

18. He may question you? Be careful--he may use enhanced interrogation techniques! Great answers
provided up-thread--but if he tries to escalate, walk away. I've made the mistake of getting into major arguments with the RWers in my family, and I regret it. Although you may be better able to hold your temper than I am.

Is there a good chance he'll be quoted on the news again? Consider that in your decision. I have to see my main family adversary, potential Ted Kennedy seat candidate, major league RW big-mouth, Curt Schilling in the news and it sucks. Not sure though if it would suck more or less if I hadn't got into it with him about politics. Maybe you can figure out how that would figure into your situation.
