California fires: My guy pal's sister had to evacuate and take all her sanctuary animals.
Acton, CA, area. She rescues horses, dogs, cats, any pet or animal who has been abandoned, mistreated, abused, etc. She is a wonder with animals. Matter of fact, she is a saint for what she does.

There are lots of places like this in that area ~~ please, my DU pals, send some strong vibes/prayers ~~ whatever fits for you ~~ that everyone and all the animals get out safely and they can soon return to their sanctuaries where they are lovingly cared for.

Thank you...:hi:

1. I do not care how bad California your debts are
you can't just burn down the state for the insurance money.

...I spoke with my guy pal not long ago and he said his sister and the horses and the rest of the animals ~~ mostly abandonded and abused dogs ~~ got out OK. She is just worried that nothing will be left for them to go back to. Matter of fact, she is more worried about them than herself.

I wish them luck. You're right, she's a saint. What a scary position to be in.

7. She is amazing....
...until the last few years, she had a husband to help her. He is now in a home because of dementia. She has no children or anyone else to help run this place. Some volunteers do come by and she is very grateful for them. She is a tiny woman in her mid-60s and she just seems like the Energizer Bunny.

14. She does it out of her own pocket....
....and I am not sure on donations. My guy pal and I help out with money and time ~~ me with the dogs only since I am allergic to about every kind of animal skin/fur except dogs.

Thanks for thinking of this...and I will sure make an inquiry and find out if donations can be sent somewhere for all of the animals in the area who have been evacuated or injured.

:hi:

4. Definitely sending good vibes
I'm worried sick over "my" beloved San Gabriel Mtns. and all the people and animals there . I volunteered during the fires in 2003 (Cedar and Paradise) in San Diego County. Bless all of the volunteers and everyone who is helping the animals.

6. Thank you....
...I am so concerned about how bad it is getting here. I am South Bay area and we have the "orange" fire sun today. Matter of fact, the fire in the San G mts is sooooooooo huge, it looks like it is close by and it is miles away.

10. We lived in Oceanside and had a great view from our back yard
A far away view for sure, but we could see the San Gabriels and I know the smoke would be horrifying to see even from that distance.....

Stay safe and breathe easy....it was horrible for two months back in 2003 and the ash settled over everything. :hi:

8. And bless you. It takes a certain kind of person to volunteer
in a fire. I can see the fire from my house, but I'm in no danger. The police robo-called people who live in Monrovia to tell them to stay inside because there have been several reports of bears running through the neighborhood (not to mention the smoke). Scared my little 82 yr old gambling buddy to death. The firefighters and volunteers are all in my prayers and thoughts, as well as all the poor animals who are running for their lives.

...it has got to be miserable where you are ~~ in Monrovia.

12. Thanks....it was easy to volunteer. I wasn't working and able
to help out as needed. Most people needed a shoulder to lean on and talk about the horror they faced escaping the flames....

The animals  have nowhere to go.....

19. The majority of people I met had pets and horses too
They could find places to rent or stay in a motel, but no one would allow their pets :-(. Some were just staying in their cars with their pets because of that.

26. I would do the same thing. My pets are my kids and no one
would leave their kids to fiend for themselves. Cats are the hardest in disasters; they tend to hide and watch you scramble around looking everywhere for them. Dogs are fairly easy, but I can't imagine trying to get a horse to safety - that would be a nightmare.

13. These fires are a common annual occurence, and have been for
1000's of years, probably.
The animals are well cared for and much preparation, more than is needed is taken with regard to fires.
And there is no question in my mind that the best and most that can be done for them is being, and has been done.

I would love to have a rescue. I'm such a softie for pretty much any and all animals that's it's pretty ridiculous.

They have our prayers.

Keep us posted!

20. There are many animal sanctuaries/refuges in the possible path of this fire
but here in CA, we know how to handle it. There are many places set up to take in large and small animals.

I am in Burbank- please PM me if I can be of any help to her.

21. Bless you....
...I believe that she is OK at this time with where she is and spaces/places for her brood. Waiting for more news. I offered her the use of my guest bedroom ~~ and bless her for her sense of humor ~~ she wanted to know if the horses and doggies could fit in there, too. I am not sure where she is exactly ~~ this info on the offer of my spare bedroom went back and forth between us via her brother.

 Thanks and I will PM you if there is a need and thank you so very much for what you are doing to help!

23. I just heard an interview on MSNBC with one of the fire marshalls...
...and he said that in this area if an evac order is given, at this time it is NOT precautionary. It means the fire IS coming.

Gawd, it gave me chills...and I cried a bit.

24. My thought are with your friend!
I took in a dog for our rescue during the San Diego fires. It's rough attempting to evacuate all those animals, especially when they're not just dogs. Maybe contact Pierce College if she needs help? Or Cal Poly Pomona?

I wonder how the Shambala Preserve is doing. I know they're close to Acton. A got a call a friend whose husband is up there battling the fires. The firefighters are in awe of this one.

27. She is a saint
Anybody who rescues animals, whether it is one mutt from the pound or on a larger scale as your friend does, is a saint in my book. Sending good vibes her way and to all of the people and animals that are in the path of this firestorm.

29. Is there any way you can find people willing to foster some of these animals
or those of others forced to evacuate? I wish I was close enough to help, but would be happy to donate. Just let me know if there's a paypal account or web address to send the money to.

Sending vibes of protection to every living thing in harm's way.

30. Thank you....
...so far, so good.

If I find a way to donate to all the animals that have been displaced, I will start a new thread.

Like someone said above: My animals are my children and I would under NO circumstances leave any one of them to fend for him/her self for any reason.
