MONTPELIER -- Vermonters pushing for impeachment of the president and vice president had the last legislative door shut on them Wednesday.
A group turned their efforts Wednesday on Senate President Pro Tempore Peter Shumlin, who had expressed support for impeachment. They came away with a clear answer from him: "We're not doing impeachment."
Jimmy Leas, an activist trying to persuade the Legislature to pass a resolution calling on Congress to conduct an impeachment investigation of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, said he was disappointed and would instead return his focus to grass-roots efforts.
"What we're left with is reaching out to the public," he said. "When people participate and speak out is the only time it has any impact."
