I Hope There Are Plans In Place To Keep RW Nuts Away from the Teddy Services

I have a very bad feeling that the nuts we've seen since Obama got elected - tea baggers, birthers, anti-health reform screamers - are going to show up at the various services for Teddy to "voice their patriotism."

I think a 10-mile perimeter on protest signs, vitriolic screaming etc isn't excessive.

I'm thinking long-term here. I would like it if 5, 10, 20 years down the road when footage is aired of the services held for Teddy that the screaming idiots were not in frame, rushing forward to tip over his casket.

Imagine if protesters had run into the path of the cortege at the JFK funeral. Every time footage was shown from that horrible weekend, the protesters would be a part of it, an "angle" to the story that the media felt "obliged" to cover.

They can do all the screaming at Teddy that they want at a great distance. History won't bother to note that.

If dignity needs to be imposed in this case, then I feel the country owes it to Teddy to do so. These cretins have no sense of decency, let alone dignity.

Your sense of the size of Boston and DC must be off. A ten mile perimeter around Arlington National Cemetary would encompass all of DC, and extend into portions of maryland and fairfax county virginia with hundreds of thousands of people. Boston is also a very small city with lot of people -- ten miles would probably encompass the entire city.

I don't want the nutjobs disrupting the service, but the idea that no one within ten miles of arlington cemetary or the church in boston could erect a protest sign (and, by the way, to pass first amendment scrutiny, you'd also have to ban signs praising Teddy) is absurd. Teddy, of all people, would be offended by such a ridiculous idea.
