Wisconsin couple adopts Brett (Favre) the goat found in trunk
A week after Brett Favre the quarterback found a new home in Minnesota, Wisconsin found its replacement: Brett the Goat. Duane and Carlene Schultz of Eleva, Wis., adopted the goat, which was seized by Winona animal control Friday after it was found in the trunk of a car, painted Minnesota Vikings colors purple and gold with the No. 4 shaved on its side.

Winona prosecutors are considering charges against the goat's former owners. "It may seem like a humorous incident, but it's being taken seriously," Assistant City Attorney Brian Glodosky said. "It is sad someone would treat an animal this way."

Auto repairman James Prusci called animal control after a woman came into Tires Plus to replace a belt and told him a goat was in the trunk. The woman - who said she planned to butcher the animal later - had tied the goat by its feet.

The goat's owners relinquished the animal to Winona's animal control, officer Wendy Peterson said. Police referred the matter to the city attorney's office to review for possible charges, Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said.

Janelle Riopel, 21, of St. Paul, and Sonny Yang, 24, of La Crosse, Wis., could be cited for mistreatment of animals, Glodosky said. A message left for Riopel was not returned Monday. Attempts to reach Yang were unsuccessful.

Brett the Goat is healthy and mostly cleaned off, Carlene Schultz said. The No. 4 is still shaved on his side and he has a purple tint when in the sun, she said.

The Schultzes are keeping Brett at their farm, where they keep goats, llamas, chickens and a donkey. "He is wonderful," Carlene Schultz said. The Schultzes plan to still call the goat Brett, she said.

This isn't their first farm-related homage to the former Packers quarterback. They modeled a corn maze after him in 2008.

1. What the hell is the matter with people?
Leaving a live animal in a trunk? People are cruel. I wonder how she was going to butcher it? A 9 iron to the skull.

GOD I HATE PEOPLE!

3. That's pretty much how the pros do it.
Lock an animal up in an overheated, confined space for hours or days, and whack it over the head before they gut and skin it. One of the reasons I avoid eating meat.

2. Amusing story, in the end, though I thought at first the car was painted with the number 4.
You'd think they could hire writers who understood the term misplaced modifier. :)

6. woman with the goat was interview on the radio this am
Her story--Her boyfriend Sonny is Hmong.
In that culture, goat is eaten as is what we do to cows.
Boyfriend had a desire for goat meat. So they hop in her car and off to wisconsin to buy some goat.
Much to her surprise, when they get to the farm they discover the goat is fresher than she thought it would be (as in still alive).
The wisconsin farm apparently did the shave and paint job as a prank. Minnesota customers -hahaha.
They buy the goat-stick is in the trunk with new plan of getting it to
Twin Cities where it can be butchered.
As thier luck would have it-car trouble.
She told mechanic goat was in the trunk
Mechanic calls cops, cops call animal control.
The couple explain what is going on.
Cops ok with it-animal control has a bambi moment and threatens charges unless
the goat is turned over to them---Wonder if cattle trucks going to the slaughter house face a roadblock when they drive thru her town........
The informal deal is- turn over the goat and no charges.
Seems that the news hit the wires and now the cops and animal control want to throw the book at them.
I guess Sucks to be them.
I WOULD HOPE that the fact that the male was hmong has nothing to do with this. Racism against the hmong has been a bit of a problem from time to time on the wisconsin side of the border.....

7. If a white farmer had painted a goat for a County Fair & then butchered it, would we demand charges?
