Imus Is "Fired Altogether"
I just heard it tonight from a completly reliable source, someone who is personally involved in the discussions. I can't tell you who said it, but trust me on this one, it's over for Imus. Mark my words.

18. Probation Would Have Been Plenty
I suspect that he'd have been a forceful advocate for doing the right thing.

Look, unless it's a snowjob, the guy uses a lot of his income to help seriously-ill children to a wonderful experience. Anyone who does that has a warm heart within - unlike, say, OxyRush. Where there is a heart, there can be redemption - and it would be better for all.

him well, evidently, says "it's been a disaster waiting to happen and it's happened".

Giving to charity does not give anyone, even imus, the license to spew hateful racial and sexist slurs over our airwaves.

This is a victory for the anti-hatemongers and a heads up for coulter, limpbaughs, ad nauseum.

Rosenberg's comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team are reminiscent of his June 2001 remarks about tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams: "One time, a friend, he says to me, 'Listen, one of these days you're gonna see Venus and Serena Williams in Playboy,'" Rosenberg said, according to a November 20, 2001, Newsday article. "I said, 'You've got a better shot at National Geographic.'" Rosenberg also referred to Venus Williams as an "animal."

discriminated against for their blackness or their femaleness see what a wonderful person Imus is.

He's apologized before and it apparently meant nothing. He's made promises to clean up his act before and it definitely meant nothing.

Sometimes enough is enough, ya know? I don't think that kind of talk belongs anywhere in polite society or in public. It's long PAST time in my book that he get the boot. Long past time.

"The decision does not affect Imus’ nationally syndicated radio show, and the ultimate decision on the fate of that program will rest with executives at CBS Corp. In a statement, CBS reiterated that Imus will be suspended without pay for two weeks beginning on Monday, and that CBS Radio “will continue to speak with all concerned parties and monitor the situation closely.”

actions regularly. THAT's why there's heavy pressure to fire him. Everyone knows what his show is all about.... he's been ranking on all people for 30+ years. He criticized Msnbc management in the past tnd they're trying revenge. I can boycott MSNBC entirely if they've fired him.

I have no doubt you will hear this news very soon, possibly tomorrow. Many people were in the room during the announcement, I almost felt that it was okay to post the source, but then the person mentioned that they had to attend a meeting later where they would have to keep quiet, so I thought I should too.

How are you doing, friend? :hi: I have to tell you this person also had a lot say about New Orleans tonight. How there were 100,000 Democratic votes in NoLa, but by shutting black people out of the city and not providing funds for them to return to the city, the GOP has given themselves the advantage in the next election. It's just sickening.

And it is sickening, this group doesn't want to give up the power and they will take advantage of everything and everyone they can to disrupt the votes to try to regain congress and hold on to what they have. Affordable housing is almost non-existence here and rentals that exist are so expensive. Certain neighbors may never be rebuilt.

And many folks are just clueless, willing to trust their leaders.

I'm hanging in there, thanks for asking.

The TV deal is one thing...the radio is another. As stated above, I have yet to see one Imus radio station cancel his show...an indication of affiliate and sponsor restlessness.

Stand by your post and I hope you are correct, but from "reliable sources" I have (that have been reliable for many, many years), the fact is none of the 70 stations that carry his show have expressed any rsponsibility in airing his bile on their signals or that they want to cancel his show. None.

NEW YORK // Bruce Gordon, former head of the NAACP and a director of CBS Corp., said today the broadcasting company needs a "zero tolerance policy" on racism and hopes talk-show host Don Imus is fired for his demeaning remarks about the mostly black Rutgers women's basketball team.

"He's crossed the line, he's violated our community," Gordon said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press. "He needs to face the consequence of that violation."

Gordon, a longtime telecommunications executive, stepped down in March after 19 months as head of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, one of the foremost U.S. civil rights organizations.

He said he had spoken with CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves and hoped the company, after reviewing the situation, would "make the smart decision" by firing Imus rather than letting him return to the air at the end of a two-week suspension beginning next Monday.

CBS TO CEASE BROADCASTING IMUS IN THE MORNING

CBS today announced its decision to cease broadcasting the Imus in the Morning radio program, effective immediately, on a permanent basis.

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent," said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in announcing the decision. "Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society - all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."
Imus in the Morning was carried on 61 stations across the United States and distributed over the Westwood One radio network. The cancellation of the program comes after statements Mr. Imus made about the young women who comprised the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team, which reached the finals of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship this spring.

Moonves concluded: "I want to thank all those who came to see us to express their views. We are now presented with a significant opportunity to expand on our record on issues of diversity, race and gender. We intend to seize that opportunity as we move forward together."

69. So something good WILL come out of this incident
More diversity on CBS and MSNBC programming. Very good news indeed. Can't wait to hear Imus reaction to this development.

71. Interesting that both corps. stressed it was public concern that sparked...

their actions of dumping Imus, mentioning their employees & such, while in the background, the major sponsors were pulling out so fast, the pig banks must have been spinning.

I'd love to give credit for higher motives in these decisions by these mighty corporations, but it is, afterall, the MSM, where profit rules everything.

"When I look at it from my position as a director, where my responsibility is to represent the best interest of the shareholders, it's more complex," Gordon said. "But at the end of the day, the image of CBS is at risk. ... The ad revenue of CBS could be at risk."
