Question about Obama's place of birth
I see this stupid argument all over the net. I certainly don't want to ask my question any place outside of DU and get into a "discussion" with wingnuts, unless I already know the answer, so can someone help me out?

My question regards passport and visa records. Are they still kept from 1961? If they are, wouldn't they show if Obama's mother left the country to travel to Kenya and when she returned? If she didn't leave the country during the time of his birth, obviously, he wasn't born outside the US. If she did, that's another story, that I don't want to bring up to the wingnuts.

Being only a second generation American myself, I don't care where he was born, just where he is now. But I also don't want to get into this "discussion" with wingnuts, if I don't already know the answer.

1. Just tell them you're a Socialist and that you
don't care. They'll understand that a lot better than any facts or reason you may have.

13. Go one further! Tell them you are looking forward to the One World Order
and then confide in them, secretly, that you probably will be stocking up on the 'good' toilet paper while it's still available.

2. Just ask them if they really think Republicans would have missed anything on him...
...during the elections.

Stay out of the detailed arguments and just ask how stupid they think Republicans are to let him enter public office anywhere along his career.

Really, if there was anything to this, they'd have had it out last year if not sooner.

They got nothing.

you need a passport. To get a passport, one needs to show proof of birth. It's the law.

edited to correct screw up.

4. Don't waste your time.
It's not as if they haven't been exposed to the truth yet. It's simply that they make a conscious choice to lie to themselves.

5. His birth certificate, or certificate of live birth, say he was born in Hawaii.
As does the local newspapers at the time.

That is the proof.

And if his father wasn't Black, this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion.

The whole conversation of where he was or wasn't born isn't really about his place of birth. It's racist in it's conception.

I, personally, wouldn't bother with conversing with a birther. They will just make something else crazy up, and when you don't have an instant reply to that, they will accuse you of lying about everything. Don't give them what they want- attention and acknowledgement from a rational human being.

6. Here is the stooopidest part of the birthers:
His mother was an AMERICAN it doesn't matter where he was born, even though he was born in Hawaii. If you are an American, you can have your kid in any part of the world, Timbuktu if you want, your kid is STILL a freakin' American. Why do these fools even ask when they KNOW his mother was a red blooded American born in Ohio and raised in Middle America????

Geeez these birther people are stooooooooopid!

8. My guess is that there aren't passport or visa records

for 1961. Most records from that time would have been on paper, I doubt seriously that anyone spent the money to add them to computer databases. However, the lack of evidence or even the existence of evidence won't mean much to anyone at this point, given the record of accusations of forgery and outright evidence of forgery (by the birthers).

I think I'll simply take the "short form" birth certificate (which has the seal and signatures) and the word of the Hawaii governor and dept of records that Obama was born in Hawaii. Not to mention the placement of ads in the local newspapers that place him being born in Hawaii. As for his later living situation abroad... he wasn't of an age where HE could decide what citizenship he wanted, nor could he enter into any legally binding contract on his own (not being of the age of majority), so any renouncement of citizenship claim is spurious (even if it DID happen, of which there isn't any evidence).

I think the birther movement has died out now. Oily Taints has been shown to be, well, nuts (clinically so).

The birthers have been given a NEW motive to spew their hatred... health care reform. Up next... energy and global warming.

20. They would have put it on microfilm if kept. My house was built in 1925

and there is microfilm of permits for it kept in the city/county records, I've seen them.

10. Birthers don't accept gov't records as evidence. They cannot prove their own "natural born"
citizenship since they don't accept public records as evidence.

That's what you say.

I don't want Obama to have to do a single thing other presidents haven't done.

born in the U.S. of A. All their "proofs" have been shown to be bogus.

I was near ready to scream when I saw the title to your thread. I thought DU had become infected with the mindless, babbling idiots who call themselves patriots aka right-wing fanatical screwballs. If I hear another one of them questioning his citizenship / birthplace I may wind up in the looney bin.

Did she get sucked into her own black hole?
