1. It seems...
We have edged closer to that possibility. Mind you, there is no cyanosis in my lips. Getting rid of the doctrine was, at the end of the day, a huge payoff to broadcasting.

6. I've only seen Imus one time - last nite on TV news - are the cowboy hat
and the long, blonde hair stage props?

17. In other words this is not his regular off stage attire, right
Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 06:23 PM by Bobbieo
If I were to see him on the street it would be minus the cowboy hat and long hair. I saw him for the first time last night and got my ass chewed out on DU for referring to him as an "ugly redneck".

19. Perhaps.
He didn't always get done up like that. Besides, he ain't from Cowboy Land, originally.

5. The Fairness Doctrine would be a good step toward restoring
integrity, accuracy, and fairness in news reporting.

20. no. not in this environment. to the contrary,
we'd have nicole ann simpson OJ smith coverage all the time, all the channels.

why spend money on REAL journalism, when sensationalism sells?

21. It would be a start.
The networks would lose viewers like crazy if all they reported on was the fluff news. Look at the trend already - they pretend to report the news, yet there's a lot of Anna Nicole and Don Imus. In fact, too much of it.

Keith Olberman's show last night devoted half of its time to the Don Imus story.

The Fairness Doctrine is not the perfect solution, but it is a start in the right direction, and it's a step that must be taken.

11. What would that do in this case?
Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 06:13 PM by MonkeyFunk
Give nappy-headed ho's equal time?

on edit: That's a little too flip.

my point is that the Fairness Doctrine wouldn't have any effect on this situation at all - it only would apply to political speech, and childish name-calling isn't political.

Imus has lost his TV gig, the FCC is getting involved. I'm not sure the system has failed in this case.
