S.30 would only allow research on embryos that died naturally....
Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 05:13 PM by Zookeeper
S.30 would further restrict stem cell research.

I hope our Senators are clear on the difference!

6. Yes.
Coleman just gave another ridiculous disingenuous speech about his bill (s.30) offering "hope."

I've called his office twice today!

15. They acronymed S30 "HOPE" (of course--as I roll my eyes).
That's why you'll hear that word over and over. It's called--the Hope Offered through Principled, Ethically-Sound Stem Cell Research Act.

As they say, they think we are morons.

Good lord, Coleman, you poor thing. I sympathize--mine are (ugh) Kyl and McCain, God help me.

5. My first thought when I heard that this A.M.
Like the difference between a live houseplant and cut flowers a couple days old.

3. Embryos that died "naturally"?
Given that stem cell research depends on live cells harvested from 8 day old blastocyst, I don't see how such a thing is possible.

7. "Does your Senator think you're a moron?" StemPAC site on the difference:
http://www.stempac.com/

I love it. Here's StemPAC's skinny on S30, from above link:

Although stem cell research has bipartisan support, "pro-death" activists are working hard to torpedo this bill, and take hope away from millions of Americans. Some Senators have even put up another bill, S 30, called the "The Hope Offered through Principled, Ethically-Sound Stem Cell Research Act." The problem is -- it actually imposes additional restrictions on stem cell research. In short, it's a crock. But some senators apparently think their constituents are so stupid that they'll fall for a warm fuzzy title. In short, they think you're a moron.

Now, THAT'S the way to fight these bastids!

What's scary to me is the reports I've heard that some of the dimwits in the Senate are voting yes to BOTH bills--:wtf:

9. Yes! I'm watching and Kerry, Klobuchar, Kennedy.....
and other Democratic Senators voted "yes" on both. Arrrrgh!

I called Klobuchar's office earlier today and emphasized that S.30 was a "no." The man who answered didn't know anything about it.

do you have a list on who voted what?

But, I'm eager to find out who voted for it.

voted yes on both.

I repeat--:wtf:

14. Er, won't someone just leave the lid off the petri dish or test tube?
Or is that the wrong way to look at things?

18. Personally, I believe these people are so damned desperate to escape their failure,...
,...to take care of the life that is in front of them, they HAVE to focus on something they have NO CONTROL OVER e.g. "let's save something we KNOW we have no control over,...germination."

Seriously, though,...have you noticed that, advocates of life at conception contribute very little into the lives around them, clinging to the 'property' of theirs?

20. It is weird that they are so zealous over these embryos--and I say that
as a person who believes that life begins at conception (though I am pro-choice for the public realm). But when you have all these embryos that will never become people, what good is it? Why not help mankind? What do you risk? It's nutty to me.

17. Fuck--I hardly ever say that word--but S30 passed 70-30.
So W gets his big photo moment signing this crock into law.

S5 isn't veto-proof and I doubt they have the votes to make it so. Sigh...

I still fight for the younger ZK...
