47. Integrity
Yeah, there's no integrity in being a concerned American citizen desiring answers from his or her government. There is no integrity in taking time out of your day to seek out such answers. There is no integrity in standing up to your elected officials. There is no integrity in seeking accountability. There is no integrity in subjecting yourself to insults, ridicule, threats, and anonymous vitriol on the internet.

There IS integrity however, in attempting to stifle any dissent or questioning. There IS integrity in cheering on the concentrated effort to discredit regular citizens on national television. There IS integrity to be found at [email protected]. There IS integrity in smearing those that disagree with you as being nazis, members of a mob, un-American to get them to shut up. There IS integrity in claiming that a townhall meeting was not stacked with "plants" just before taking a question from one of those very plants. There IS integrity in being on record as saying that you are in favor of a single-payer system, and then denying that you ever said such a thing.

And 2 + 2 = 5

56. You think you're being ironic and sarcastic, but you've just described Dissent Under Bush...
...although your protest don't seem to be herded into "first amendment zones" (you want to talk about Orwellian?), and you only have to deal with events "stacked with 'plants'" instead of being shut out while a 100% pre-approved audience is bused in (does it still qualify as "stacked" if they're ALL plants?).

Not to mention how "the liberal media" wouldn't give us anywhere near the favorable (or at least neutral) airtime the TeaTimers and Beck'n'Callers are getting. Take your negative coverage and multiply it by 10, for an idea of how "the liberal media" treated liberal dissenters. And then there's crap like putting Quakers on terrorist watch lists for being against the Iraq war.

That might shed some light on why a lot of people here don't have much respect for the "righteous indignation" of the current crop of town hall dissenters.

If you're concerned about sifiling dissent, how about you go after the people spreading the steaming mounds of bullshit about what's being proposed, not to mention the lies about systems used by other countries (whose experiences might be useful in informing our debate).

And read up on how the brownshirts acted, and figure out which side is edging dangerously close to that sort of behavior.

to take advantage of her. She looked like deer in the headlights.

She was confused about Medicare and Social Security. I got the impression that she's pretty helpless. I would guess that someone put her up to yesterday's rant, or they coached her to not be combative during this interview, so she could be the victim.

23. She processes "the Founders" in that same part of her brain she processes "Jesus."
Her comprehension level is sufficient to get her through the day, as long as its a 'normal' day. It pleases her husband. She's not seen as a threat -- more like a useful tool -- by her boss (if any) and neighbors and pastor. She's happily seen as a means to other people's ends and not an end in herself. Sad. There're millions like her.

then she says "I'd rather not say," when asked if they make over 250K, followed immediately by the corrective "I don't know."

sounds like she's lying

'we have a small business'

if 'we' have a small business, how come your husband takes care of everything, and you don't have any idea where any of the money goes

sounds like she really does know how much they make (she was FURIOUS about all the taxes they pay when shown on the clip with Specter)

19. She probably doesn't have the foggiest idea how taxes work
I talk to so many wingnuts who tell me they pay half their income in taxes, or some other ridiculously high percentage. I always respond that they need to fire their accountants immediately because they are clearly not doing any kind of tax planning for them. Small businesses especially have all kinds of tax breaks and write-offs. If you have a small business, and you are paying income taxes at all, you are either doing well or you have an idiot for an accountant.

The level of willful ignorance was so deep that she should have been embarrassed to even mention the Constitution - or any concept of America. She HAS no concept of America. By her own admission, she's a tool and loves being a tool. My suspicion is that someone else pushed her buttons and made her go off at that meeting like she had a clue about this country.

27. I just watched it and was appalled that a 35 year old could be
so incredibly ignorant. Moreover, I suspect she might be Mormon (mentioned "missions", though that doesn't mean it has to be Mormon). She has no clue about her family finances, admits to being clueless about anything going on in this country, several times indicated that she was most happy when she could imagine some paternalistic dictator running her life, and suddenly NOW has a point-of-view that needs to be expressed?

She isn't even intelligent enough to be embarassed at her appalling irresponsibility as a citizen. This country isn't FREE because the willfully ignorant ignore the world around them and listen blindly to some paternalistic dictator (which comes from either her church and/or her husband). Freedom means that each citizen has a responsibility to pay attention to their government. Her amazing lack of attention, and her quiet acquiescence to Bush, and her willful naievete about the issues facing this nation make HER seem ten times more irresponsible than the government she was attacking.

that she could have survived the curriculum. She doesn't appear to have the ability to even check information on the most elementary level - that would have failed her butt on the first reporting course. She's not articulate, and has no curiosity about the world around her. . .and she isn't interested in anyone else's narratives but her own. She doesn't possess even the most elementary critical thinking skills beyond a propensity to lie.
