3 American Troops Killed in Southern Afghanistan
Source: AP

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Clashes with insurgents killed three American troops in southern Afghanistan, where roadside bombs also killed nine civilians, officials said Tuesday.

A Polish soldier, 22 Taliban insurgents and two Afghan soldiers also died in violence nine days ahead of the country's second-ever presidential election. A record number of U.S. and NATO troops are working to protect the country ahead of the Aug. 20 vote, which Taliban militants have vowed to disrupt.

NATO said the American died in separate "hostile fire incidents." It did not disclose the exact location of the attacks. The first died of wounds suffered in an incident that occurred Saturday, another died Sunday and the third died Monday, a NATO statement said

At least 24 foreign troops have died in August, a near record pace. July, when 75 troops died, was the deadliest month in Afghanistan for U.S. and NATO forces since the 2001 U.S. invasion.

1. This blood is President Obama's hands now.
Is there no body sane enough in this administration to realize that these wars are un-winnable and unnecessary?

4. I remember not less than a year ago, when a soldier would stub his toe,
and there would be at least 5 threads, all with at least 50 replies and 30 recs.

I guess it was all faux outrage. Now, no one gives two-shits about our military people because it's our chosen president who's sending them to die.

5. Tragically, you speak a lot of truth.
Afghanistan is going to cost more than Iraq, we a looking at staying there for decades, and the death toll rises. But, for some reason, it goes on without the outrage.

6. There is no such thing as an anti-war movement in america.
Edited on Tue Aug-11-09 08:50 AM by daedalus_dude
During the Bush years we had an anti-Bush movement. It manifested itsself as opposition to the Iraq war. Now that Bush is gone no one cares.

We didn't have a large scale anti-war movement during Vietnam either. We had a anti-draft movement.

To be truly anti-war one must reject militarism altogether. Such behavior is considered unpatriotic in America, by the right and the left.
