I was well past 55 and on my first day at a new job. A partner and a young associate were sitting at a conference table with me. We were all waiting for a meeting to begin.

The associate started to badmouth a female senior partner who was a couple of years older than I claiming that the female senior partner was "menopausal." I thought to myself: She's not at all menopausal. She is way older than that, as am I.

Of course the whole discussion was aimed to intimidate me. Ageism and sexism all in one bundle. It's a 1-2 punch and quite powerful, but not enough to put me down. And I must say, that female senior partner would also have been able to take care of herself had she been present. But of course, the kinds of people who make remarks like that are not brave enough to make them to the older woman's face.

I'm just amazed because the two people at the table were also Republicans -- very right-wing Republicans. I've never heard Democrats use that ageist, sexist 1-2 punch. Interesting coincidence, I'm sure.

Now David Brock is a major advocate with 'fair & balance' reporting and the founder of "Media Matters".

Perhaps something like this might make Ann to crossover to ourside. I mean David Brock was just as vile as she is today. But I could imagine the tales she could tell about the shenighans that go one with those right-wing nutjobs.
